Looking at doing half the work of installing an air conditioner (leaving the pipework and gassing to a professional) to keep costs down.

I've got a 1.6L G16A EFI in a SJ50 Tintop

Is a Compressor from a Sierra 1.3L Carby Compatible with the G16A EFI?

(ie: can i just get a sierra setup and it will work, or will I need a compressor from a vitara, the evaporator from a sierra, and the rest from either?)

I would think you would use everything from a sierra bar the compressor and bracketry that holds it to the engine.
you may need to get new houses made up for the ones that run to the compressor

I could be wrong though about the comoressor and a sierra one may fit.

you can use all sierra stuff, the aircon bracket will need a little tab welded on
so that it fits the 1.6 block. there is photos in my build up thread where i put a 1.6 in my hardtop.
oh and the aircon clutch/pulley needs to be swapped for a multirib belt jobbie.

thanks shep... just looking through the 26 pages now :P

this project might be put on hold for a little, just found a strip of rust holes below the windsheild... got a mate coming round with a welder tomorrow, might see if i can cut this out and get it done then, otherwise it'll be few weeks away at least.

actually i had a look but i couldn't find it. i have a feeling that i might have
started a thread about the aircon issues.
might have to ask atari to find the thread.

Paying near on $2000 for a brand newbie installed professionally sucks too...

I'm not too worried if it doesnt work overly that well, just something to take the edge off the wet season heat when its raining outside and i can't open the window... been up here for over 4 years now, and all 3 of the cars i've had in that time haven't had air con :S

I saw foonji's thread and thats why i started this one, but he's not willing to post *yet*

Everything except the compressor should be ok second hand hey? or you reckon I should get everything brand new?

Ive spent more than that keeping a 'working system' running this year

my compressor died, old age and partly my fault for ignoring early signs of it, partly some other wankers fault for fitting the drier back to front when it was last serviced

So 'just replace the compressor' was my instruction to the AC guy, he did that and the drier (has to be done) and off I went, problem was the thing made a funny noise, take it back the the Evap and Condensor and TX valve have metal in them from the old compressor, fucked the TX and likely to move about and kill the compressor, so all replaced and more gas and its right as rain

Bit down the track I need to replace a hose (unrelated and I'm fucking pissed I didnt get it done at teh time the work was done) and its noisy again, send it back to teh dude and the bearings in the compressor are fucked, oil doesnt seem to be int eh compressor, so another compressor fitted and condensor and TX cause they have metal in them

Was announced as right as rain but its still noisy so it will have to get looked at again some time

If I just said do it properly the first time I would of had good AC and enough left over for an airlocker......
