i know this has probably been mentioned before but the search doesnt work for me, ive tried.

just wondering if anyone is running their zook on gas and if a tank can fit under the car in its usual position?

Kinda helps but im looking at trying to keep the tank under the car in original spot as i need the room in the car

I tracked down a tank that will fit, I can't remember the dimensions off hand but it will definitly fit in place of the stock fuel tank. I have two of them out the back of the shed but you won't see me out there tonight to have a look at them, huntsman city out there :lol:

There is a serious issue with range though, as the tank is only something like 40 usable litres. On LPG that's not much.

If yes it was made to fit in the wheel well of taxi's so thay could keep the std size fuel tank..

ive got the 730 long in mine with inch and a half spacers because of my 2 b/l a 700 is what your after and it will go between the rail right up against the floor

An LPG tank can only be filled to 80% capacity ... I reckon ~12L/100kms for a standardish Sierra running straight LPG, so you'll have a range of about 250 - 300kms on an underhanging option. I have 67 usable litres, and on my new tyres I've got a 550 km on-road range. I'm hoping my new exhaust can get me closer to 600 a tank. More is better, i'd definitely get a bigger tank if I did it again.


I sussed out the 'hanging under' option, but even the smallest tank hangs down beyond where a standard petrol tanks sits, as mounting brackets will also take it closer to the ground than you estimate. It wasn't exactly my idea of a 'safe' looking setup. I think the underneath tank I sussed was 45cm x 70... can't remember for sure. You start having mechanical clearance issues if you get anything bigger than the smallest option too.

Go inside if you want to go gas, just get a roofack too.

Those scuba tank setups they run in Range Rovers might fit in the back of a zook.

Yea inside isn't an option for me so I dare say if there isn't an appropriate tank I'll stay petrol. Main reason is for angle drivability without cutting out. 250 is atleast 50 more then eat I get now on petrol. Mines running at about 17l/100

The best setups are the yanks with their 2 propane tanks in the back - forklift cylinders. Apparently 100hp is easy on a stocker, if you screw it right. Too bad it's a no no here.

I've filled up outide Stanthorpe once and you can tell when you've got straight propane in the tank thats for sure, much more boot to give! Around the city and the burbs LPG's got more butane in the mix, and not quite the same rocket.

Is running fork tanks on a rego'd vehicle even legal? I'm guessing no, but it would be cool if it is!!!!

Legally, tanks have to be hard fitted on road going vehicles, which is a shame coz a forlift tank fits perfectly in the back of a sierra.

Went and spoke to a few guys today. Looking at about 2500 fully setup. With approx 70 usable litres. They all recommend in the back but I'm still unsure. But most tanks are to big for underneath anyway

I'd stick with petrol. I reckon if you're using 17L/100km due to upgrades, you'll be lucky to get 200km outta a tank... if your carby is healthy and you're only getting 17L/100km on petrol, I reckon you'd be lucky to get 20L/100km on LPG. Tend to use about 20% more i've found. My consumption is what it was on petrol, but I got a K&N filter and new rubber now.

About the clearance - my main concern even with a small cylinder was the tank and diff coming together at speed, or the diff jamming behind the tank somehow. Ground clearance is still OK, but far better when mounted inside.

Wat about cog with tank up higher? I have a 32/36 webber so I think that's partly the issue with consumption and 35s everyday
