I've done a search but can't find anything. My Sierra has fairly new 2" OME springs all round at the moment (no RUF) and i'm about to start a half-ruf. Given i've already got 2" rears in the rear, what standard rear springs can you recommend for the front. I've got a 1.6 efi, front bar and winch hanging over the front diff so i'm thinking I might need something relatively heavy duty but still with good flex. Cheers, Jimmy

Why wouldnt you want to put teh 2in rear up ur front? If you get the fixed front hanger relocated properly the front end should be roughly the side height of the rear with the added bonus of having the longer leafs. |

But that's what I'm thinking, same amount of work for std rear's, don't like the drilled hanger idea.. |

yep lifted springs, 1.5" rings a bell. mines got a chassis ext and It was all set up using only the main leaf to get all the possible shackle angles correct pics if you like |

I also moved the rear spring hole to hole measurment to get a little more travel, about 15mm from memory |

 You didn't move the rear hanger on the front???
Did you move the diff in the locating bolt?? |

rear hanger in stock position no the diff still sits on the same locating bolt position as the springs came with. it gives you more room for those sweet swampers
the chassis ext was 60mm but the front hanger was only moved 22mm from memory because of the ext shackles I'm using |

I'm hoping not to do a chassis extension but rather run 2" shackles and re-drill the rear mounts. It was my understanding that in order for the car to sit flat or close to flat, the front needs to have standard rears? Also, it appears OEM don't make a standard height rear spring. It makes sense to do a chassis extension I guess - do it once, do it right. Only trouble is i'm not overly confident with my welding... |

It makes sense to do a chassis extension I guess - do it once, do it right. Only trouble is i'm not overly confident with my welding... My Sierra runs a redrilled rear mount and 2"longer shackles. Using Standard WT Sierra rears. My LJ80 runs cut off and rewelded mounts without a chassis extension and standard shackles. Using standard LJ50 rears. The LJ is a million times more satisfactory. I don't trust my welding either, I got someone else to do it. Will be doing the same to my Sierra soon (though to suit 2" lifted springs); I really really recommend people do it this way, not the drill a hole and whack on same dodgey shackles way! As for sitting level...the Sierra does, the LJ doesn't. The LJ sits rather high in the nose, but I think this has more to do with the rear springs not actually holding any lift. |

I've been doing a bit of reading on RUF's but was reluctant to do a full RUF as my zook has been off the road for 5 months getting built up and I just want to drive the bloody thing. Nonetheless, I don't want to cut corners so chassis extension it is. Out of interest, how far forward did the diff go? I need mine to go forward about an inch. |

the thing you need to look out for is that the drag link and tie rod dont end up fouling eachother or you will then need to move the steering box forward a little |

Out of interest, how far forward did the diff go? I need mine to go forward about an inch. It does get to you! Somehow you just have to keep saying it will be worth it  .
I had the brackets welded on to suit where I wanted the diff to be. On the LJ this was the rear mount 20mm back, and front one 30mm forward (from memory). This gave me roughly 20mm forward (once again memory? lol). Only issue with these measurement I used, is it will only work for a 1m long spring, too much longer and they will invert. Hence my Sierra will be done to suit a 2" lifted spring which are usually longer. |

If you do a RUF, is it common to use shock hoops or is it okay to use the standard shock mounts? I can't seem to find any info on this. |

You would be better to put higher shock mounts in. I haven't in the LJ80, but I have to use bump stop extensions to fit the tyres anyway, and got lazy. My shocks still limit the down travel, though I am happy enough to not bother changing it on that car. |

Below is 40mm OME all round. Looks small in this pic but I think it's the angle. I've run it with both 110mm ext shackles and now stock with moved shackle hangers. It's sat level in both trims.

So you used stock fixed end positions and 40mm extended (110mm total) and lifted OME's all round? and you now run same springs with stock shackles and moved fixed points? which would you say is better? |
