hey guys need a hand with my front drivers side brake on my sierra, the caliper is not fully disengaging after braking resulting in a lot of brake drag and a lot of heat. Only the drivers side is affected. originally started about 12 months ago but only very rarly, now sticks everytime you use the brakes and have to stop and let it cool down. the furthur you drive the hotter it gets and the more it grips on the disk. i thought it was either the piston not retreating or the slides not sliding properly. ive had the slides apart and regreased countless times and the piston retreats easily when i use a g clamp. Is there anything further up the line which might be causing it? and has anyone ever had this same problem and how did they fix it? cheers guys and any help truly appriciated

I know it's back to basics but first thing to check is brake line condition (could be crimped)and bleed the brakes.

And if that fails, remove the caliper and give it a real good clean and grease, rinse and repeat

Check the condition of the caliper pins that the caliper body slides on. These can get crud in them and bind up causing brake drag. The boots should seal all pins from the environment. Also check that the holes in the caliper that the pins slide on havent ovalised.

I used to have a trailer that would boil the old brake fluid and jamb the brakes on.
maybe do a fluid change too

cheers guys, ive cleaned the slides about 3 times now and she has new fluid and lines, but ill just try again and hope it works. What do yas reckon a second hand calliper would cost if none of this works?

are you regreasing them afterwards with a rubber friendly grease?

i had the left front calliper stick the other day, hard pulling and smoke when i stopped haha. got a caliper rebuild kit for $17 if i remember correctly and that fixed it. gave everything a good clean and all before putting new seals and that in

just using some nulon high temp lithium based grease, no idea if its rubber friendly but ive been using it for years on everything on the zuk and the rubber still looks fine. Where abouts did you buy the rebuild kit from taszook, repco or somthing?

Metro motor spares, its like repco but they actually have things in stock. I think they are just a local thing
