Hey folks, I have a 99 Jimny it sometimes has a grinding(?) noise coming from the front of the car. It seems to only happen after I start moving and it can be stopped by slowing the car to a stop where the noise slowly winds down and then thuds or by moving to transfer case gear stick towards 4h.

If has had this problem and fixed it or has any ideas it would be great to hear from you.

cheers

Start with checking the front brake pads and wheel bearings. Then work your way from there

not 100% but just putting new hubs on might not fix it...
pretty sure people who have had this problem had to replace the solenoid.
if they get dirt in them they dont seal properly and allow the vac hubs to engage slowly.

manual hubs 100% fix it though

ok I've had a look through the service manual and can't find any reference to the hub solenoid. Can you please give me a bit more info on this

cheers

Just a quick update.. I think I found what was wrong with it. It looks like at sometime before I brought it someone has put the vacuum lines for the auto hubs around the wrong way. When it was in 2H the hubs were engaged and when I was putting it in 4H they were disengaging. Hence when it would grind and I put it to 4H the hubs would disengage and the noise would stop.
