Apart from size, what's the difference between all the Tom Toms? I've never used one, but they seem like a pretty neat toy if you dunno how to work a UBD directory. There's a fair range in prices too. And what does it mean when they advertise free maps with a sale? I would've thought there was only one map - 'the' map... hmmm |

Tom Tom suck. Free maps are normally upgrades to the latest edition. Get a Garmin so you can get Garmin Topo or OzTopo. |

The other nice feature of most of the Garmin GPS's is the ability to go offroad with the GPS. I've got TomTom, Garmin and the supplied Nokia mapping software in my phone and the Garmin software shits all over the other two. TomTom keeps telling me to do a u-turn when possible while offroad and their latest maps is still well out dated. The other thing I hate about the TomTom software is that it takes about 5 minutes to lock on to the sat's. The Garmin software takes about 30 seconds. The only good thing I'll say about the TomTom software is that it suits simple minded people. |

Ive used/had them all and on road I think tom tom is the easiest to live with day to day, garmin would be my next pick, yes the mapping is better but they are a pain to use in ahurry and suck to use while driving. |

I've had my cheapie for the past couple of years and I've loaded TOM TOM, Navman, iGO, Route66 maps and Ozzy Osbournes voice onto it. I find TOM TOM's format much easier to follow than the others, In particular how it shows your current speed next to the speed limit. Of course they are road maps, but they do list fire trails. Sure it tells you to turn around and to drive off cliffs but if you use a bit of common sense, you can't go wrong. A bit like how people use to get around before GPS's were invented. |

Things like screen size, wireless/blue tooth, hand free functions, 4WD maps, expandable memory, FM transmitters, AV inputs for reverse cams etc and of coarse the map subscription. There are maps for different countries and to buy them can be expensive >$100. |
