For my Baleno conversion I used the standard Sierra hoses and chopped up the steel coolant pipe from the baleno thermostat housing.

ae82 corolla hose for the back and ford laser (not sure the year- 88 maybe?) for the front.
Cut in appropriate places and joined with a copper joiner from reece plumbing.

Thats a LOOOOONG run for a rubber hose :?

I think I would prefer a stainless pipe up to the front of the block.

It is a bit of a long run of hose, not much choice unless like you said you went a solid piece. You could even make the long straight section in solid.. Havent had any problems with it though:)

I would imagine if the rest of your cooling system was up to scratch that hose would be fine.

I know that long hoses can be an issue in a warmer engine bay though. My 300zx ( and everyone elses) had a long rubber lower hose that used to suck in when you were caning the arse out of the car at a track day. So I used to make solid replacement pipes for the club members. Saved a few cars.

And xedent: I have seen copper used before, but I personally wouldn't use it as copper and aluminium react badly when they come in contact with one and other. I'm not sure if it would be an issue, but with the G16 ally head I wouldn't like to take the chance :?

Didnt know about it reacting with aluminium but Ive got an lj50 with a 'custom' mazda radiator with copper bends and reducers brazed on, and thats been fine for the last 7 years.. I assumed it would be fine since thats what hot waterpipes are made from! otherwise, yeah, you cant go wrong with stainless

YEah I doubt there would be any issues with using copper for pipes. The only way it would effect the ally head is if there were copper particles erroding from the copper pipe. Not likely me thinks.

But I still think stainless is a better longterm option. And I have a TIG, so stainless is easy to work with

Your on drugs.

All sierras have alloy heads.
All old sierras have copper core radiators.
All sierra's have mild steel pipeing(but coated but rusted through by now)

So thats 3 metal mixing! OMG

I run a custom pipe on the exhaust side of the head. Uses original hose for connection to radiator. But back of head bits are fully custom thermostat housing etc, then 1 hose bend. Baleno G16B Twincoil

mine is solid stainless, a good quality silicon hose conects the thermistat to it and a cut down stock top hose conects it to radiator. neet!

I just went to supercheap and picked some right angle bits up (looked very similar to zookfuns), used some left over pipe from the swift to join them up in the middle. might put a photo up later

Anyone have a better pic of the radiator hoses?

I've got a MK1 and the metal pipe that comes from behind the water pump is too long so had to take it off as it was fouling on the gearbox.
The metal pipe has an o-ring and comes from the back of the water pump (i'll try to get a pic tonight)

I've got the Barina 90* housing that i will run to the top hose of the radiator (don't want to run it on the passanger side over the extractors so will run it under the intake and up to the top radiator inlet) but what about the house that comes from the water pump?

Any pics or info would be fantastic

Water pump o-ring pipe, Use original sierra gear to the bottom of the radiator.

My new Baleno motor top outlet setup has custom 90 housing, and baleno cut and shut piping to top of radiator, Running directly under the intake manifold just above the water pump pipe, parallel to the block, and pops out the top like the normal sierra outlet.

Thanks for the pics DMAC but i won't be running the top hose of the radiator (from behind the block) like you did over the extractors but instead under the intake.

From your pics i can't see how you ran your bottom radiator hose which is what im after

(Yours is a MK2/3 but im assuming it shouldn't be too different?!)

I won't have a problem running the hose from the back of the block (thermostat housing on the GTi engine) but im just looking for opinions on how to run the bottom radiator hose (to the back of the water pump on the GTi engine)

The original steel pipe that has the oring and runs from teh back of the water pump runs paralel to the block and has actually 2 hoses that come off it (i'll try to get a pic tonight)

When you say use original sierra gear to the bottom of radiator....what exactly do you mean?
Any pics?

sorry no pics. You should be able to use 1.3carb sierra water pump pipe and hoses. What was yours originally?

I found a pic of Chiney's build....

Image

I just can't see how he got the bottom hose bent....how he connected it onto to the water pump

All i can think off is that the sierra water pump housing has a 'male' adapter on the end instead of the 'female' one like the GTI?

Not sure what you mean by what was mine originally but if you're asking about the engine....it was a 1.3 carby (original engine)

I'll have a look tonight and see if the sierra water pump can fit....if it can....then i may as well utilize the fan instead of putting a thermo

Hehehehe....sorry for being confusing :)
I just re-read your posts and they made perfect sense

It also made perfect sense last night when i took the original GTi long water pipe off and used sierra pipe instead.....it slotted perfectly into to the GTi water pump :)

Im considering using the Sierra waterpump with the fan instead of the thermo as the water pumps seem to be identical

Thanks again for the input

 cool bananas.

g16b pipes also pop into the back of the pump, although the pumps may be different, have never checked or changed them yet..
