I have some fuel filters on my diff breather hoses and today i noticed there was some water in one of them. Its the front diff and there was about a tablespoon of water.



Its possible rain could of gotten through one of the ends of the filters as i just left them sit behind the battery where water could channel through. Or worst somes to worst i have water in the diff, should i drain and refill?

Maybe the water was already there and thats just the condesation collecting from inside the diff?????

Did you change the oil before you did the breathers????

why not drop the oil and change it just to be safe? its a relatively cheap solution to what could turn into a big problem =)

I didnt change the oil when i fitted the breathers, but condensation sounds right as the filter had frost/condensation all around it inside. I will change it tomorrow to be safe.

contrary to popular belief, a breather on the front diff really does bugger all to stop water getting in, it still gets sucked in through the breatherless swivel hubs to sit around the cv and seep into teh bearings and past the axle seal

stay out of water when your diff is hot, keep an eye on stuff, try an make sealed swivel boots like Dynas have, put breathers on the swivel hubs

all might help but youll never stop it, the design just doesnt allow for it

pressurise the diff =P but not so much you push the oil out the seals... haha

wont help, diff is sealed from swivels where it gets in, reading > you

it will even seep through teh wheelbearing seal, which is designed to keep grease in, not shit out

Well it wasnt good when i turned the drain plug and this came out......

Ive drained and refilled twice and took it for a good drive, i will drain and refill through the week and again on the weekend.

A mechanic gave me some diesel, about 200ml when into the first refill, he said will help flush out the milk.

sure will, keep turning the front diff daily as well to stop condensation rusting the bearings
