just wondering what kind of setups those of you with thermo fans are running in regards to wiring, i have a 14" thermo that isnt running through a relay and ipf headlights with H4 globes as well as a falcon alt upgrade on my 1.6 baleno motor but when i have the lights on with the thermo i get quite alot of alternator squealing even though the belt is tight and the alt is charging correctly and the battery is fine, do i need to run a smaller thermo or try a relay/new belt ect...
electrical wiring isnt my strong point

A relay won't make a lot of difference to the alternator squealing. The fan will still draw just as much current, it will just draw it through the relay circuit instead of the switching circuit, so the load on the alt will be the same.

I would have though a 100amp falcon alternator could provide enough current to run a thermo and lights, that shouldn't be the issue, but obviously the more load on the alternator, the more load on the belt. If the belt is tight then perhaps a new belt is in order or something...

Something bad amiss, a 14" thermo uses bugger all power, and so even a slack belt should not have any squeal, the lights are the issue I recon.

Try the lights by themselves, then add the thermo.

Belt may well be passed its use by date.

is it a V belt or multi rib set up???

i would run the fan through a relay, as stated it wont effect the belt squealing though.

cheers belt passed used by i think, also bottom bolt was a little loose causing belt to slip and alternator to work overtime ??? all fixed now will get a new belt and keep the old one as a spare.
heading away over xmas so im trying to get all those little things sorted before hand.
