My car's been playing up pretty bad the last 2 or 3 weeks. its fine at idle, and at full throttle, but anything between that it's been hesitating really bad... at first i thought it was a head gasket, but the problem kept coming and going randomly... decided to have a look at the fuel (i have 2 filters, 1 in original spot and 2nd just before the fuel pump) and i noticed there was slightly muddy water in that. had a look at the original one, pulled the lines off and dumped what was in the filter into a clean bottle. see attached pictures...

now for the question: i plan to drop the tank, flush and clean it, then replace all hoses and clamps to be on the safe side, but is there anything else i should be doing before doing any more driving in it? i let it idle after i changed the filters and there is a little bit of crap in the top one but nothing to be concerned about.

If it were mine and I didn't have time to do it properly I would clean or replace filters then add a litre of metho to a tank of petrol and drive it.

With my Sierra, I put a bottle of metho in every month, for prevention.

already replaced both filters, both clear ones so i can see whats going on. filled the tank full of premium fuel (before realising the condition of the filters) and i watched the filter under the car while it was running and it looks perfectly clean now. one in engine bay does have a little bit of crap in it and the first bit was a little dirty but otherwise fine. i'll put the metho in then drive the car til nearly empty then clean the tank out afterwards. i just put over 70L into it, $120 so im not real keen to just toss whats there haha

yes it does, i'd be stupid to get rid of that, the extra range is awesome! and i dont think its rust, im pretty sure it's red NT dust 8) souvenir from my travels... as for the water, i did find that the main fuel feed hose was leaking where it joins to the tank, could easily have been sucking in water and dust... time to replace the fuel lines and clamps before doing any water crossings. tightened the old clamp, appears to have stopped leaking but its not overly expensive to replace, just to be sure.

condensation could be from that, i have 2 20L jerry cans permanently attached to the tray but theyre both plastic, so no rust...

i doubt this happened before i picked it up, problem wasnt there at the time. i did fill up at 4 different servos in NT alone, plus the ones in QLD. coulda been from any of those, or even somewhere local around here.

that i did... almost 100L all up, filled the tank + a jerry can. filthy aye... im still thinking it must be somewhere local here, problem started 2 months after i got the car, just the color it is i don't wheel anywhere with that color dirt, reminds me of out there. so that does make sense.
