Hey all
Car is a 97 sierra and today i went down some sandy tracks and got bogged, when we were trying to get it out we noticed the front wheels weren't spinning.
So i tried unlocking the hubs and relocking them, still nothing.
When i locked them again the passenger side felt like it was pretty loose but would lock into position (Free and Lock) but just in the middle it didnt feel like it was moving anything.
What should i look at?

make sure your transfer is in 4x4.

confirm that your front tail shaft is turning

pull the external part of the hub off and clean/regrease... only takes 30 minutes.

I hadn't done mine and 2 weeks ago I got stuck for the first time on the beach cause they didn't engage. haha. WD40 fixed them up as a quick fix on the beach. Cleaned/greased when I got home.

and make sure the spring is on correctly, mine had been dissasebled and then put in wrongly so it would turn etc but not engage.

Pretty sure the FSM has an assembly diagram.

lock the hub and undo the 6 10mm head bolts holding the hub on, if when you pull the hub out a gear looking thing comes with it the spring is in, if it stays in the hub its not

I have a similiar problem. No drive to the front.
The hub turns but won't engage.
I've taken out the hub, but the gear thing didn't come out. I held the hub back on but then couldn't turn the hub at all. There's a bit of rust and crap on the springs so I gave it a good dose of wd40. Now I can only turn it two thirds of the way to the lock position.
Is there anything else I'm missing, or should I replace it?
It's an 89 vit.

found the problem. The cog was frozen up with rust and gunk.

Thanks for the replies guys,
Before i pulled it apart, i jacked it up (all 4 wheels) and started it, put it in 1st and all 4 wheels were spinning. I could stop one wheel and the one on the other side would speed up, but i couldn't stop both so it seems like it was working.
Does all this sound right.
