just in the last throes of dropping the gearbox but can't clear rear subframe. do you need to remove clutch or is it a case of jiggling g/box around?

Never done a Jimny but the Sierra is just a matter of jiggling and holding your tongue right. I'd imagine the Jimny is similar

got the mofo out. what a prick. Why they didn't make that rear crossmember bolt on is a joke. I'm dreading putting the new box in. anyhoo it's beer o'clock.

haha yeah i did the clutch on mine about 6 months ago...

dropping the gear is a shit of a job!
helps of you angle the engine back a little to give you that extra room.

i would guess it would be worse then a sierra

:? How do you line the new one up???? :?

Take the g/stick mounting bracket off the g/box, take the g/box as far back as you can then jack the front of the eng up, or lever the back of the eng down, still a tight fit, but fit's..

I meant with the g/box in the way, if you can't get the box out with out the clutch off, stand's to reason you cant get it back in with the clutch on..

Did you remove the selector bracket??

yeah removed the selector thing..

i just slid the gearbox back as far as i could.
gave me enough room =]

woohoo. new g/box and clutch are in. just need to bolt everything up.

the trick with Jimny gearboxes is to drop the clutch and fly wheel. makes it so much easier to put the g/box back in.
I made a shorter alignment tool from a tent peg.
Just slide the gearbox to the rear and gives plenty of room to bolt in flywheel and clutch. I used a mirror to make sure the clutch plate was central
