Gday guys -

Is it difficult to put a Vit motor + auto trans+ t case into a Sierra?
From what I have heard the t case is stronger, and the box is as well, but no doubt they are larger. Is a body lift required or does some tunnel adjustment need to be done?

Bloke at local Suzi place says he can supply a kit for $1900...

motor is OK, box and transfer not that much point

major problem is vits dont have any reduction in high range, so you will need to fit 5.12 diff gears as well to keep any amount of high range usefulness

you could go all out with twin transfers but lots of work and butchering just to fit a different box

Do it :D

Get Some gears from Calmini for lower gearing off road and slot some lux diffs under there to match centre output and 5.29's for more reduction on raod 8)

Basketcase, that is exactly why I am thinking of doing the vit swap - I have a pair of lux diffs in the garage, and since I couldn't find a rear bundera diff for a reasonable price I thought of doing this.

Royce, Reason was I would prefer an auto as I think they are probably better than a manual off road, and if I can get a complete drive train, it may be easier...

You could fit the motor and box and just use the siera transfer which would be better for ratios anyway. If the box is too long it isn't that hard to move the transfer back and swap the front and rear drive shafts around. That's the beauty of a transfer with a jackshaft.

even if you put hilux diffs in with 5.29 your a micky hair lower ration than stock, its not going to like pushing even 235's let alone 33's or something

cant have a vit box without transfer, they are 1 piece, if you want an auto you can get a 3 speed vit auto and a gemini trimatic and make yourself one that will fit behind the 1.6 and still use a sierra transfer

another option could be the jimny 4 speed auto, from a G13BB motor, jimny's still have a separate gearbox to the transfer box, ala jack shaft.

the G16B motor swap has been done to several jimny's now, not sure if any have been autos tho.

How are the Auto boxes strength wise?
