I have just done a Half RUF on my sierra (WT). Now the rear is lifted up nicely, but the front, although lifted is not the same height as the rear. There are a few things to consider. The car has no panels other than tub and front clip and engine, so there is no weight in the back which will make it higher. I have used 30mm longer shackles on the front. I have redrilled the fixed end back ~20mm to reduce the amount the diff moved. I was talking to my brother about it and he thinks the load bearing leaf is facing the wrong way (see pic) despite this being the only design I have seen on standard sierra rears. Can anyone shed some light on the load bearing leaf in the picture or the setup in general. Joe |

i just pulled the load bearing leaf out of the rear springs on my sierra and they were also facing down as in your picture. Personally i'd remove them as they look like good anchors when driving ruts. |

What about the weight of the engine? Also will removing the load leaf raise or lower the car? The load leaf is bent the other way to the other leaves. |

that load leaf is doing nothing. taking it out will have no effect on the height of the car. it will only come into play when the other springs compress down far enough to touch it. |

I thought longer would be better but didn't know for sure. The motor is still in at the moment. This is the current shackle angle... |

yeah thats not a good shackle angle. the first bump you hit the shackle will stretch out straight and may not come back down. longer shackles will "fix" it a bit but realistically you need to do more moving of hangers. |

Longer shackles. Longer full length second leaf. That main leaf is going to bend where the second leaf ends. Piss off that load leaf and put a normal leaf under there. 3/4 size of the 3rd leaf, so the pack is gradually reduced. |

bear in mind that extended shackles are. Illegal will play around with your caster angles and could give you death wobbles will change your approach angle. this is the way i did my ruf first time around and i have now learned the error of my ways. full ruf is the only way to go. |

I also vote take out the load leaf add longer normal leaf, but reset them all much higher too, will add your height in, and shorten them eye to eye. use a pipe bender if you have it but if not just wedge them in somehting and stand on them. b4t used a car stand when I was at his place, I have a pipe bender. As you arent re-tempering them they will sag again so go a little over. I know one car that has rear springs up front without even redrilling doing this. Full ruf is better. |
