Look what I found, yanks are making manifolds to take a 40mm side draft bike carbie, so you can solve all your sierra carbie problems and be trouble free on all angles like a 1 litre or LJ

I used to run a 2.6l landrover su carbie bolted to a CT12 Toyota turbo on my old 1.3l and it worked brilliant never missed a beat up hills bouncing round or nothin, it was a little rich on fuel only getting 45kms out of a tank 4x4in at about 7500rpm most of the time, maybe that's y I blew so many heads, but ya get that |

This thread was meant for good tech, Solves carbie problems like efi.. A landrover carb does not fix the problem, bolting it on makes it worse, They are known to be shithouse, then 46ks a tank makes it mega waste of time. |

^^^ This is an illegal setup on my 1.3 Sierra, I've enquired about this about a year ago before switching to LPG... legality depends on the pollution controls of the 1L engine of which I have no idea. Check out Zooks Off Road - they have a full Harley Davidson 44mm Screaming Eagle CV carb and conversion kit, that's the guy to go for. |

There is a great idea those old stationary engines you see at show are higher tech than harleys and probably make more power and reliably |

Late model Harley carbies are the most well sorted and bullet proof thing on the bike. Compared to a HD CV, an Aisin carb simply doesn't measure up in terms of power deilvery, efficiency, reliability, longevity, or self-serviceability. There's a bunch of kick arse Samurais out there with this setup, i'm yet to hear of anyone who has gone this route be dissappointed. But - I posted a similar find a year ago and pretty much got flamed. |

There is a great idea LOL the bike may be unreliable but you will find that the carb is made by mikuni not harley |

Know to be shithouse to those who cant tune or dont know anything about them. They are SU constant velocity carbs and use a vacuum slide and a metering needle. Set up right they run really well and do return descent economy. |

45km per tank ????? is that even possible on a 1300, that's like 1 litre per km or over 80 litres per 100KM, 4 tanks of fuel to Caloundra and back, I don't think so. I just looked a few things up and apparently a Mack prime mover averages 20 litres per 100km at 95KPH on the hiway. |

strapped to a turbo revving at very high revs in low box goin nowhere fast it is possible not only does the increased size of the carbie increase fuel consumption but to aid in the process it was bolted direct to a turbo which increases the vaccume through the su carbie quite considerably sucking even more fuel through, I spent the whole day doing hill climbs at telstra toweres ages ago, I have since retired the turbo set up and moved to efi Because of the high dues consumption, although it was great fun |

Sounds very excessive to me. Even a rover 3.5L v8 (with the twin SU's) mud bogging all day doesnt do no where near as bad as that. Flames out the exhaust? SOunds like it was running sweet as...... |

What AFR was it running at WOT? Did you get it tuned on the dyno or just winged it? as hervey bay has no decent mechanics,or none that i'm associated with personally I just winged it, tuned the carbie to the best of my ability, As I never had the time or money to spend on it to get it tuned 100% Is the reason I sold the turbo kit to some kid in Perth for $1400 someone elses problem now , I see it's been on eBay 2wice since I sold it. And afr at wot, was NFI, as I never ran a afr meter |

Well, from first hand experience these are awesome kits. The Myside-II and the petroworks CV setup are the go. I don't know if they are legal down there or not though. Here, they are the system everyone goes to if they can't find, or afford TBI injection from a 1.3 or 1.6. I ran 1.6 injection on my 1.3 for a year until I could get the 1.6 rebuilt. If it is available, injection seem like it is always the best bet, but when you can't find it, or afford it, these things are great. Good enough that some guys have home brewed some of their own. A local friend of mine has the myside-1 kit and he loves it. They can also be re-jetted for engine mods like turbo or cams, where the EFI needs to be replaced when you go all out with engine mods. Quote: I'm yet to hear of anyone who has gone this route be disappointed
Me too, and there;s a lot of guys running them now. 'Course Myron provides phone support to get them running good for guys who have trouble. |
