had a wine in the diff for a day or two cheacked it for oil and it was low but not dry
so topped it up the wine wasnt as bad then so went round the block few times and then as i was slowing down it just locked up i reversed it was fine then went togo again and nothink all i can hear is like the tailshaft spinning

so got under had another look and were the tail shaft go it was like popped out or somethink the steel plate what sits on the diff housing is just rattling around and wen the car is in gear the tail shaft spins but car goes no were no handbrake either
its a 83 narrow track sierra 1lt

any ideas

Yep sounds like your diff is dead, I will sell you a 1 litre diff drum to drum for $100

Post some pics, sounds almost like the pinion shaft has snapped, dropping the pinion into the diff.

Mate I dont what do you mean, you have a 1 litre, this ia a 1 litre diff from drum to drum, it will bolt straight in and away you go.
