has anyone attempted makin there own hardtop coz im thinkin of doin it to mine and just wanna see if its been atttempted before |

Hey mate, an old dude that I dont really know has one made up at of aluminium, it looks farking sick! Ive always been meaning to stop and chat to him if he has the specs for it still. He got it made up at a place called GK fab around my area. I reckon his hardtop looks better then any on the market available hard tops. |

I reckon his hardtop looks better then any on the market available hard tops. Pics would be nice. An ally hard top would be a really hard thing to make look good, blend in with the curves and style of a LWB. |

yeh i think its easily possible itll just be a very time consuming task and i wanna get ma alloy skills up to scratch aswell so good practice ill let use know wen im thinkin on startin it |

I was thinking this the other day, even just turning a soft top into a tin top. Some good sheet metal and welding skills and a bit of gear is all I'd expect it to take. Oh and a lot of time! But making an alloy (or steel which would be easier) hardtop that's removable would be a piece of cake, just want to keep it light and strong and fix it down well in case you stack as you don't want it coming forward! |

there is a sierra in hobart i see some times with a ally hard top... dosent suit the car imo but i think thats in the way it was buit |

the aim is a steel frame with rolled alloy checkerplate as the skin and glued all round till the sides so no leaks through the rivits and marine carpet on the inside goin for a fastback aswell ull see as i go bikini top first .... next week |

Nice idea but I wouldnt use checkerplate, tends to make things look tacky when its overused. |

i made my own nothing flash just got 3mm thick ali sheet rolled the sides over and riveted it down does the job and doesn't leak! |

This guy lives around my area, he got this made up, it opens like a normal car boot on little hydrolic strut things on is connected to hinged on the top hoop. Shane |
