Post subject:  Jimny VVT missing at low revs
Hi all, I've noticed when I'm at idle that about once every minute or so the engine has a little skip/miss, revs drop by about 50rpm but only for a split second. Also get it at low revs after coasting and then hitting the 'go' pedal again.

Any ideas?

i had it.

started with a misfire that would happen when under load at low rpm.
eg. turning a corner at low rpm

then began doing it at idle and the engine would hesitate if revved from idle too. eg. would miss a few beats shaking the engine around a little and then rev up.

it slowly got worse and worse.

it was getting dark one afternoon when i decided to check it. i pulled the silly little plastic cover to see the ignition coil and leads. revved the engine and noticed a blue flash... one of the coils was shorting out on the block...
then i pulled that coil off to find the lead coming from the bottom of the coil had broken off....

after finding out they cost heaps! and being a little short on cash at the time i bodged it up.
put new plugs in as my ones were worn out. and a little electrical tape and i was off again =]
but it eventually came back on my recent holiday.
much worse this time causing stalls wile doing technical slow 4wding.

was able to find a aftermarket coil when i got back and it's been fine ever since. i think the coil was for any M series engine. including a holden cruze... do Holden make any of their own cars?...

AFAIK if its throwing a code, the check engine light will be on?

not true... some codes dont throw the light but are stored in the ecu

I have seen TPS's cause a stall on take off, but mainly on the auto's, the manual's it dosen't seam to bother.
Also the EGR's can get gummy & the valve stick's open a lil bit causing a "vacuum" leak, will give a bad idle & just off idle..

But for you Mr Nutter, I would put money on it being a coil..

mine was like that, mines is non vvt tho, changed the tps and the crank angle sensor and made no difference, it was some little filter thing to do with the air and the computer, ended up costing 80 bucks and suzi store fixed it.
other option is to rev it more haha

Do you mean intake air temp sensor?
That "could" make it run rich/lean, causing a miss fire. But I have never seen one fail unless it was physical damage..

MAP sensor, if you were getting oil in that your intake would of been full of oil to
