Sounds more like the shimming wasn't done right, and even if it was done correctly the way they push together then smash apart it won't be long till you will need to shim it again... Short answer, weld or airlocker. |

31zook what can you actually shim in these lockers? (im useing a spartan if its different) The part where the axle goes into the locker, that part crashes in and out. If you shim them so it had just enough room for it to move they are ment to be allot better/tighter... i had mine in a massively worn diff and it was very sloppy, pulled it out, shimmed her up and it went allot better. |

your back lash isn't tight enough. where on the coast are you? there is a guy at lake haven that sets them (back lash) for about $70. |

They can take time to "bed in" and may smooth out with use. (Or could be poorly fitted, too) My lock right rear is hardly noticable, (I'm very hard of hearing, but can't feel any clunkings) It has been in from previous owner and well used. Fitted a Spartan locker to front recently, it was very rough and clunky, until it got used a lot, now it is very smooth. |

Jamie Way @ The 4x4 Specialist. Good bloke, he should be able to help you out. In Charmhaven. You should set up the side gear shims correctly when fitting a auto locker. Its commonly overlooked especially in backyard jobs. There will always feel like a bit more backlash, a good mechanic should be able to tell the difference between the pinion & crownwheel backlash, and the extra movement due to the diff internals. Layto.... |
