This is an odd one...

not had any clutch issues at all for the last 2 years since putting in a 2nd hand jimny clutch (was basically new) while doing a rear main seal leak.... anyway, yesterday i did a 100km round trip and did some high speed stuff (110km/hr down the freeway for most of it) and after getting off the off ramp, changing up gears the clutch was slipping for a counted 1-2 seconds (a lot)... if i babied my takeoffs and changes it wouldnt slip but if i changed normally it would.

now, today i took it for a drive and was dumping the clutch to see if it would slip again, and it wouldnt!?

so - time for a new clutch or would the high speed stuff possibly have heated it up or something???

interesting you say that - the rear main does appear to be jusssssst starting to weep again (no drips but you can see a colour difference in the dust around there).

Reckon oil is leaking onto the clutch?

Either way, to fix the rear main the box needs to come out anyway, so might as well put a new clutch in at the same time...

sounds like a good idea... it could be the rear main weeping causing it... if like you said its only doing it for a second or two. it could just be a drop or two of oil leaking into the clutch and then burning off???

worth a look anyway. and yeah like you said probably chuck a new clutch in it...

The rear main seal causing the problem sounds abit far fetched to me.
I mean the rear main is on one side of the flywheel and the clutch is on the other. If its oil on the clutch plate it could be the gearbox leaking or maybe even dripping from the bottom of the dizzy into the box.

If have a smell of the oil thats leaking to try and see if it gearbox or motor oil.
Also wipe a rag where the dizzy comes out of the motor for any leaks.

i dont have a dizzy, so we can eliminate that straight away.. i did however just go have a sniff and its definitely gear oil.

so gearbox seal?

again its the same fix though... lol might as well replace all the seals while the box is out.

I wouldnt bother with the rear main if ya already did it, saves you taking the flywheel off. Good time for a new clutch plate and some gearbox seals tho.

You have the box out, it's only a couple of bolt's to see behind it, well worth the effort IMO...

Well if you yake it off it might be worth taking it to get the surface milled clean. itll help get all the oil off and make the surface like new.

I disagree, I'd be replacing my rear main while I have the box out.

i have access to a workshop that can skim brake rotors - same machine would do the flywheel wouldnt it?

Id say they would. I got my ring gear on the flywheel flipped awhile ago because it was starting to chew out in 1 spot. They gave the clutch surface a clean up at the same time. Dont know if it help performance but it was nice and shinny!

if your going to change the clutch then you should have the fly wheel machined anyway

nah its not the same machine, we machine rotors and drums at work, but we still have to subcon out flywheel machining

bugger... that sucks- is your stuff turned around same-day? i'd be taking a day off work to do it so its kinda important! lol
