For a Sierra a 6000lbs warn is a good size but any size above that will work I think 4000lbs is too small

I reckon for the money it will cost for winch, winch mount (bar), batteries, cables etc you are mad to use anything less than a 9500lb job.

I have a premier 6000 pound winch on my zook and i wish i had gone bigger. I had to winch a stuck Patrol ute once and my little winch really struggled... so i think want33s is on the money with his comments....

If ya not worried about work, a high lift jack works as a winch

For that matter you might as well just carry a chain block instead of a whinch...

It would work, just takes a bloody long time!

depends on what you want to winch if you just want a self recovery winch 6000 is ok
if you want to winch patrols out go 9000 or bigger
a 9000 winch will pull a jimny up a tree

yep self recovery, i own a patrol and there is no way i would attempt to put it out of a bog with the zuk! patrol has its own 12000lb winch anyway. was wondering how small i could go as the weight on a 12000 or 9500lb winch would be around 35-40kg.

Have always used a warn 6000lb and it has never failed to recover my lwb.
Last week I purchased a tigerz11 10,000lb high speed. More so for the low load recovery speed.

personally I think 6,000 is heaps and mine is a $250 chinese one, Its pulled things like stuck trolls to two linked and busted zooks.
but 9000 would cost similar money, sup to you

I have an 8000lbs with plasma, works fine, last month i pulled a Hilux out of a bog hole, it was buried halfway up it's diffs and was a dead pull.

So it's not just yourself you'll be recovering , it's over bigger heavier vehicles, so bigger is better maybe.

possibly agree with the 9500 suggestions though my 8000 works very well. I would forget the 4000 idea.

PS. problem with winches is you lose all your approach angle, unless you put it in the back :)

i have a t-max 6500lb that has the same motor as there 12000lb jobbie and
when using a snatch block also has the same gearing.
so i have a fast winch that drags a sierra with ease and through a snatch block
will recover anything a 12000lb winch will.
the only thing is the spool is a bit smaller and only holds 20m of rope, i have 100m of winch extensions so it is no problem.

That sounds good shep. Is the much difference between the price of a 6500lb to around a 9-10000lb?
