| Post subject: | UHF radio with new Narrow Band Channels |
G'day, i have no experience and not much knowledge about UHF radios, so maybe those who have could give me their opinion about little uniden i have found featuring new 70 Narrow Band Channels. i know many people prefer GME over uniden, but this one have new extra channels ready to work when they will be available. the only other with that feature i have found is Icom IC-400 PRO UHF. it's to expensive for me. what do you think about this one: http://www.prestigecom.net.au/index.php ... ts_id=2555 thanks kris |

The new system is 80 channels. It operates over the same frequency range but with 12.5kHz spacings not 25kHz spacings. So as long as the radio has the ability to do narrow band (12.5kHz) spacings then you're all good. All that is needed to be done is reprogram the radio for the new channels (spacings). I'm not sure about the big name brands but the cheaper hand-held Chinese brands (still quite reliable but not well known in Aus) often support narrow band spacing. I just had a quick look at some of the GME radios and they only have 25kHz spacing so even the new ones aren't 80 channel capable yet. |
