I am wondering if someone could tell me if the Redline Weber kits sold in the USA for the samurai ..... 1. are any good? 2. Are they the right fit for my 1990 JX 1.3.? 3. Are they jetted correctly? ( I believe the Samurai has a G13A motor and my sierra has a G13BA) Also which is best water, elec or manual choke? http://www.redlineweber.com/carb-kits/auto/suzuki/ |

I agree. I ran two different ones, one was used, the next new. If you run your Sierra off road it will be nothing but work, and never run right for you off road. I would look into TBI fuel injection from a 1.6 (if you have it there), and if not a my-sideII from zuksoffroad. Unless there are any other carburetor system I don't know about these are the best two options. I would not steer you clear if I hadn't dealt with the myself, they are a bloody nightmare for anything that goes off pavement. As a matter of fact there is a thread now by skelaaleks asking how to fix his from flooding over bumps. The Myside-II carbs make the sierra accelerate like a rocket, and do very well off road. |

I have read that the weber may have problems but is this only when in serious off road conditions? It would be nice to hear from people who have the weber fitted. |

It would be nice to hear from people who have the weber fitted. I put the 32/36 on when I had my old 1.3 rig. I was very happy with it overall! Returned slightly better fuel economy on the highway than the stock unit and defiantly woke the lil 1.3 up! I found it super easy to set up and tune. Once I got it right I never had to touch the thing for years. I mounted it with the fuel bowl facing the firewall and as a consequence you do get over fueling and stalling on steep downhill descents (which is wayyy better than uphill) but with the lowrange gearing it was quite bareable, just leave the clutch out and hit the key when it stalled. I didnt have any issues on the bumpy tracks either as I set my float level to the lowest possible without fuel starvation at WOT. Overall for the simplicity of the carb, performance and reliability I found it well worth it. Obviously if you do hardcore wheeling >80% of the time I would look for something else but as a daily it wasn't too bad at all. Although if you are ordering from the US as a kit I would seriously look into a myside carb kit as skyman suggested. Dan |

Don 4x4, I've also got the 32/36 with electric choke and cutout solenoid running on a 16GA with lumpy cam in a Sierra. You can hook the Weber directly up to the existing air box setup with some minor work. Its brilliant in my opinion as runs very smooth and quiet once tuned, and I'm getting over 400km per tank, as opposed to 300km with the original carby, which is a bastard to fix if its not working properly I might add - they're not designed to be messed around with. With the Weber there are options for jet sizes for tuning. I'm driving mostly on bitumen and occasionally sand / beach. In terms of cutting out on angles I think you have to be doing some seriously steep hills for this to happen, but I believe there are things you can do to the Weber to minimise this occuring also - if you think its necessary! |

Thank you all for your input. It all seems not an easy choice. Does anyone in Australia have the My-side II carb system fitted to their Sierra? and if so how does it perform and is it an easy fit? |

I don't know about anyone in Australia, but there are a lot of guys running them here. The myside-ii is a pretty sweet setup. it;s the best you can do aside from injection hands down. actually if you do alot of engine mods, the My-side-II can bet jetted to them, where the ECM doesn't like too many mods on an injected vehicle. They will run pretty much upside down too, no flooding like the weber on steep hills or side hills. A couple of guys I run with once in a while have the my-sides and they are pretty happy with 'em. They say it;s hard to keep their foot out of the throttle. I dealt with the weber for 1.5 years (a new one and a used one), and I will never recommend a weber, like ever, but the I am behind the My-sideII 100% If you want to drop me a PM I can send you a few links to some threads etc and more info., just let me know. Why did this information not come up a week ago? I've already gone and bought a 1.3 carby engine. Out of interest, what's the injected one worth? |

Thanks but no thanks , as much as I would like fuel injection I want to stay with a carb for simplicity reasons. |
