My 93 swb Vitara engine has seen better days and it's time for a freshen up.

I have been checking out a 98 Vitara 2dr with the 2lt engine. I can get the whole car for less than a decent reco engine and it's only done 130,000km.

Now the question is can this engine just be dropped in and bolted up to the bell housing and engine mounts of my 93 Vitara?

If yes can I please grab some feedback on the engine as far as power goes and their rated power output?
Are there any common issues with this engine?

I'm not familiar with the specifics, but I believe the belhosing is different. They also run a clutch slave arrangement. The 2.0L have a wider chassis, so its unlikely that the engine mounts will work without mods. Another concern may be the exhaust manifold striking the narrower chassis rail of the 1.6L vit.

I'm sure its doable, but it will be quite involved.

I too was thinking along those lines. I really just need something with more go than I have at the moment. I think I really need to take a G16a for a drive that is tight and see the difference. Everyone keeps telling me they pull 100kmh up hills and can wind out past 140kmh. This for me would require a 2lt shot of NOS, 50 pound of boost and a 200mph tailwind...

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a Suzuki specialist that recos engines or even installs within Victoria? I wish I was closer to Suzistore :(

My 1.6 is snoked and zorsted and it won't pull up hills, especially with any load - FatZook can attest to that first hand. Might make it to 140 with enough straight road...

Why not just use the 98 and sell the 93? Any engine swap will cost $$$, probably nullifying the benefit anyway.

As for your specific questions - power output for either the V6 or 4cyl is not exactly earth shattering - it's better than the 1.6 but still under 100kW peak.

Swaps have been done, there's even a 2.5 conversion on here, but as FZ said it's gonna be a job.

A 2.0L would be a great thing in your shorty. No doubt about it. But I would be looking at using the engine, box and transfer with all associated parts.

If this is beyond your skill/ budget level, then perhaps start looking for a G16B LWB to steal parts from. Its a worthwhile upgrade from the carby G16, without being overly complex.

Or sell yours and buy a later model with the right motor already.

And DH ( darkhorse :lol: ) You need some gear reduction :wink:

Yeah yeah yeah, but only transfers. I like doing 110kmh at 3000rpm instead of 3500+...

There's no way I would swap cars. I'm in love with my Vitara. I have spent too much time on it for me to just swap her over.

Mate you can wind out to 140 and that's on 31'!

Let's go this way then. How's about a reco bare engine(no inlet man, carb, acc, for $1600? Is that a reseanable price?

I have no problem installing a new engine if it's a bolt in job. As far as welding new eng mounts for the 2.0 my welding skills are far from good.

I better update my built thread so you can see how she's coming along. I too am thinking 31' and some reduction transfer gears onCe I get the engine sorted.

FullyZooked - like I said she might do 140 with enough straight road... Mine's EFI which has a touch more grunt than the carbies. Maybe get the bare reco block and then source an EFI head/computer etc, or GTi head?

theres some thing wrong with ur g16a if you cant go up hills at 100km/h
and get to at least 120km/h :P :lol:
dont no what the difference in weight is between a sierra and a vitara
if you llived closer to me i would give you a drive of my car with the g16a

Did you get your carby sorted? As fats said, get a compression test.
If you have good compression, you should be able to sort out what is holding it back and could be cheaper than a conversion?
Are you running 30" tyres?

Been there, done that guys. Get ready for it....

91-103 psi in the cylinders. Not real flash considering they should be 170psi.

Engine is well and truely worn. Doesn't blow any smoke but comp rings have had the day. Ps valves have been adjusted to spec.

Yeah running 30's. Carb has been rebuilt 3 weeks ago. Has since been back to the carb man 5 times as it still runs like shit. We have put the lack of power down to the lack of compression.

If you've spent the money on the carbs and are set on keeping the car otherwise the long block sounds like the best bet.
