its all a case of undoing bolts, fitting seals, then doing all the bolts back up again, but expect it to take around 1.5hrs per side at least as you need to strip the whole diff down including taking out the wheel bearings and axles.

Damn, my right front is leaking, not to the point of dripping on the floor though so I might leave it a while yet.

I'm guessing it just leaks the diff oil out?

your hub should have grease in it, not oil. I'd say your axle seal is leaking.

I realise the hub should have grease in it, I was just wondering if it sealed the oil in the diff+axle or there was an actual axle seal in the front.

It just looks a little wet, I was looking for a grease point but saw no grease nipple on the hub so as you've said I assume it's coming out of the diff :(

Unless I'm lucky and it's just melted grease, although it's looking a little too thin for that...

The oil will have to get past the grease and scrapers to leak onto the swivel hub.. Check this picture, this is the oil seal that will be leaking, into where the CV sits and the grease is..

Damn internet dropped and my last post didn't work.

Mine looks to be leaking the same as that one tryhard posted, nowhere near as bad though.

Also that seal looks like a bugger to get to!

might cost a few $$ but you should replace: axle seal, hub seals, kingpin bearings and wheel bearings.

if you want to be a typical suzuki driver and not spend that much money then just replace the axle seal.
here's how you do it:
1 remove wheel and freewheeling hub end cap, remove circlip from end of CV shaft
2 remove brake caliper assembly
3 remove brake rotor
4 undo the 4 bolts that are now exposed from removing the rotor, split housing and remove.
5 remove CV from diff housing
6 replace axle seal
7 refit in reverse order.

this procedure is a simple task as kingpins, hub wiper seals and wheel bearings do not need to be touched. however if you don't know when they were done last I recommend doing the lot.

Tryhard - yours looks like an axle seal - definitely do wheel bearings at the same time - often a collapsed bearing destroys the seal too.

hey fellas, doing mine now but my question is, you got two bearings at the top & bottom of the housing, with the bearing races. i cant seem to remove the races. do i just slap in replacement bearings? my kit came with replacement races but i cant seem to remove the old ones.

cheers.

The way i did it was to use a flat blade, come down thru the race at the top and onto the inside of the race at the bottom. Tap one side, then tap the other one and so on. Than flip over and do the same. There should be a tiny lip that you can get onto on the inside of the race..

Post subject:  Re: leaking ball joint

ok i slipped it over. now im confused after removing the kingpin bearing races, i put the new races in, but now i cant seem to get the new bearings into those races... lol.

anyway, very messy indeed... looks like i gotta buy a tub of grease. any brand suggestions?
cheers

Post subject:  Re: leaking ball joint

you put the races in the right way? Knocking em out when there in the wrong way, and not damaging them mite be hard. As for grease, i just use highpressure bearing grease...
