Sorry to be of a pain but im at my wits end with this car. I have had pedal pressure problems for a while now and slowly been changing stuff, today i put a new brake master cylinder in it had my fingers crossed this would sort it though it hasn't. Now when i take the vacuum hose off the booster and put my finger over the end of the hose the pedal goes good and i have great feeling brakes, though once i take my finger off the hose the motor stalls as it should. Once i put the vacuum hose back onto the brake booster the pedal goes soft again and when i pump the pedal to get a little bit of brake the engine stalls. Also when i disconnect the vacuum hose it always has pressure in it and lets it all out when i take it off the booster?

Its a 1996 coil model sierra if it helps with a bias valve in the rear if that helps.

Booster is meant to make the peddle soft, that's what it does, It adds no breaking "power" at all..

Isn't there a diaphgram in the booster?

How do you define braking power? If i drove my car down a hill with the booster attached it would deffo pull up a lot easier and quicker than non boosted. Doesn't it help boost the pressure applied to the piston in the master cylinder?

To the OP have you tried adjusting the pushrod in the booster?

Sounds like a sota similar problem I had with one of mine, well still is a problem,,, I just bypassed it ,,,sounds like the power booster has hole in it somewhere, and the engine is stalling because it's getting way too much air through air leak in the booster

Just edit your original post to change the title. Also, I've not done much with brake lines e.t.c but can you isolate each section and see if it clears the problem? i.e. remove rear line and cap, if it fixes it your problem is to do with the rears. e.t.c

Rear brakes have been capped off, same problem, Steak knife rear brakes have been adjusted.

It could be the booster, but doesn't really sound like it, normally if the booster goes & you lose peddle it will make a hissing noise on application of the brake's.. can you get you hand's on a booster to try??

I'm guessing you've already flushed and bled the brakes?

Yea mate have bleed the brakes a million and one times now, yea I do take the hose off the booster end.

It doesnt make the brakes work any better, just reduces the amount of pressure you need to apply to the pedal You should never have to adjsut the pushrod in teh master or booster and not unless you have the manual to tell you what to fo, cock it up and you can end up with a mastercyl that isnt releasing pressure properly so the brakes drag or the booster always slightly on making the engine run funny

Usually the engine will idle high or stall when you press the brake Note this is press the brake, not pump the shit out of the pedal and wonder why the engine stalls and call it a fault, almost every engine will do that

I had a similar problem with the Nissan Pulsar only to find that the rear brake cyl were leaking?! You said that you capped the rear brakes off so this shouldn't be a problem but still worth checking Was the master cyl brand new or reconditioned?
