The noise is your throwout bearing. How old is your clutch?

The noise in neutral but not with clutch depressed suggests it is the gearbox input shaft bearing and not the throwout bearing.
Throwout bearing is only working when pedal is depressed, if the noise is there without your foot on the clutch it HAS to be something else.....

i had this problem in my blue zook. turned out to be the spigot bearing in the back of the crank

bearing was about $7 for memory lol. as long as you can pull the box in and out yourself

fix it soonest....that's what f'ed the clutch I just replaced

The spigot bearing collasped and part fell into the clutch and broke one of the springs.

Yea it was making a noise till pedal depressed.

Oh..nearly forgot..take clutch into the store.,if ya going to replace it.
The parts book for G13b shows two different clutch plates.There are two size sharfts..I think the spigot bearings are the same .

spigot bearing is miles different - 22 vs 18mm spline too.

mine is 22mm spline (bigger bearing)- the pressure plates are also different - the difference is very hard to spot, but mine sits prouder than the other one it the book by about 2mm - was enough that using the other one didnt have enough pressure.

I though the spigot bearing was the thing that sits in the block,I think mine was a 6222, but bsf rambled on aboubt bearing that get hot shoult be a couple of thou under size.

by spline i was referring to the spline on the center of the clutch plate, which corresponds to the size of the spigot bearing.

Hi there! I think I may have a similar problem with my Zuk, it is a 97 SWB with a J20A and 180,000ks. I purchased it around a month ago and drove it from Coffs Harbour to Tassie. I now notice whenever the clutch isn't depressed I can here a slight squealing noise. The noise seems to almost dissapear once you push through the initial play in the clutch and exert the slightest pressure. It is not a loud squeal however becomes more noticeable when you pull up next to a vehicle or fence etc. From my understanding the clutch had been replaced within the last 20 or so thousand k's.

just because they replaced the clutch doesnt mean they replaced the spigot or throwout bearings unfortunately, or even the seals for that matter.

I was going to post a query, however I guess I found this thread. I guess I was hoping that it wasn't going to be anything too major but I guess that may not be the case. Oh well at least I have a bit of an idea before I take it in to get it looked at.

You'd be mad not to get a new clutch in whilst its all apart...

I'd say 4-5 hours labour, $200 for a clutch and a few bucks for the bearings...

i had mine done just the other day... but i had to do mine because of a leaky gearbox seal throwing oil onto the clutch making it slip all over the place. my parts list was:

- rear main seal
- gearbox input seal
- gearbox output seal
- clutch plate
- pressure plate
- throwout bearing
- spigot bearing

USE GENUINE SEALS - my leaky seal was non-genuine and was rock hard and horrible, while the output and main seals WERE genuine and still super soft and nice (replaced them anyway).

my flywheel was fine, just used an air-tool to rub it back a touch.

seals are between $10-30ea, clutch plate, pressure plate and bearings - well my mates brother works at a clutch place so i got a very good price on those (under $200).
