putting a twin cam head and computer and all the other bits and pieces on to a g16b, would that give a decent power increse over the 1.6.
thinkin of doing this to the jimny just want to know

there are a few really good posts on here about 1600GTI's but they're scattered about in other threads. RIKSTR had one for sale a while ago, maybe shoot him a PM for info.

Im pretty sure i read some where that a 16 valve sohc head gives the same power figures on a 1600 as the tohc

Its a worthless modification if you ask me. The money would be better spent elsewhere.

Someone say my name
Its a good increase over a G16A but if you have a jimny just stick the jimny head on a G16B. Much easier and should be about the same gains anyway.

Its not a power increase over the G16B. Its a power shift. Any gains are negligable, but you will move the power from where you need it in a 4wd....... to right up in the rev range; where you need it in a race car.

Search my posts, I'm sure I've whinged about the poor performance of mine when the conversion was done more than enough times.
g16b/mk1 gti - 48kw at the wheels.
To me, thats a big FAIL for a performance mod.

Ha yep considering I netted 45kw at the wheels with my old 1.3/weber/exhaust combo

All I know is that the best way to get a G series motor going is to slap a snail on it. And the GTi head does little to help this. Higher compression, and reportedly lower flow rates mean the GTi head is less suited to budget power mods.
I'm not saying you can't turbo a gti successfully, just that its more work to get right.
In any case, the G16/ gti hybrid is a bastard of a motor, and creates as many issues as it solves, for IMO an unjustifiable gain.

Based on jonno awesome wealth of knowledge! Big J go and have a look at a few US sites. There's quite a bit of dyno info of the 1.3 running webers and also quad carbs. Man they get some descent ponies outta the quads!!
But man I wish i had a stock GTI so I could crack ova the 1000 mark

the 47kw they make factory.. brand new at the fly.. then add to that the ruffly 30% power loss though the drive train.. and i will assume your on stock wheels and tires????
so to get that much at the wheels u would need to be around the 65kw mark.. that's a MASSIVE power increase over stock with just a crabi and exaust.
not saying its not possible im just saying that its a HUGE jump.
dyno's can be made to lie very easy!
im not saying your lieing.. im just saying that's a amazing output.
and having owned a sierra with a webber extractors etc it did get along quite well.. but nothing close to what my coily does. and i would only expect around 45ish kw at the wheels.
oh and yeah i do know a bit about this, i have owned 5 sierras now. with at least 4 different motors all together.

You have had 5 sierra's hey? How many have you put and played with on the dyno's? A few years back I was lucky enough to have to opportunity to play with/on a dyno (as I was building/calibrating the hardware/software for the dyno itself). Also for such a simple to set up carb it also ceases to amaze me how many get its super super wrong and thus run like dogs! Thirsty dogs!! But yes I have seen a few other dyno results for zuks with the same set up, they aint that far off! Also btw how close do you think the stock power output figure is to the actual? Just remember many engine come out of the factory de-tuned and choked to the max for emissions and durability sakes.

that is true. my old tin top went back to the carbi place about 10x to get it right... and it was pretty spot on.. it used to pull hard but in saying that it was far from fast.
i have yet to have my coiler on the dyno, i think the tafe is having a dyno day in a few weeks so i will smash it on. i realy want to know where it makes peak power etc... mine will happily pull hard out to about 7000rpm, anything over that u might as well be in the next gear!
i am honestly interested... in saying that i watched a guy at the last dyno day hold the temp probe in his hand for a run and a bog stock vn 3.8ltr said it made 175kws atw

i am also keen to know why the 1.6 bottom end doesn't work with the gti head... no one seems keen to say WHY it doesn't. the gti boys seem to get good power, and i would have thought the extra 300cc would just make it that much better in the bush!

His comprehension of carbys and EFi/ electronics is way beyond me, and I'd wager you also. Not to mention he is currently working his was through his PHD. So when Dan says he achieved 48kw at the wheels on a dyno, you can be asured that the dyno was correct, cos Dan probably wrote the software
Which is why once i get my manifold done i will be asking Dan to come round and work on my mega squirt for the 50 . you can weld alloy cant you pete wonder how much i can get out of the factory 27 kw the 50 puts out lol

You gain some torque from the extra capacity, but the peak power does't increase that much. It does move higher up the rev range though. And something else to consider is that the G16B doesn't like to rev like the GTi does. Not sure id the crank, rods etc are up to the task over time.

Yep. I might drop the turbo setup for cammo onto the ute and slap a megasquirt on for Dan to play with too.
And yes I am set up to MIG ally. Still don't have an AC TIG though

Well if you have correction on the dyno it will take into account to outside airtemp and compromise to try and give you an actual power reading at a standardized air temp. Cold air more dense= more power if your outside temp was say 10deg and you were holding the probe at 37deg then yea the software is trying to correct for this and in this particular case will show higher power outputs than normal (cheat the system) Lame...
Im no expert, im just interested in the stuff and do alot of work on it and with it so after quite a few years you start to learn the ins and outs. Not form word of mouth but from hands on experience. And yea if anyone come up with something different to with my opinion is I wont shut them down, Id like to hear it, think about it and have a logical discussion about it. That how you teach people and also how you learn new things.
