OK so I'm working my way through all the little niggly things on the vit and the one that really irks me is its habit of sitting on 1800rpm till its well and truly up to temp and also sitting on 1500 for a good 5 seconds when you pull up at lights then drop back to normal 800

is this normal? spose I should ask that one before I dive into it looking for answers, does it with accesories on or off (for the idle up garbage) and turning the A/C on doesnt seem to be any different

I havent been able to download the manual for it yet but have the basic diagrams for the EFI so am going to check out whether the idle control soleniod is a straight out open shut scenario or whether it really does have a variable duty cycle to control idel speed and whether it can be adjsued somewhat (doubt it)

so do I have a problem or is it just what they do? even if it is I'll find a way to change it

mine does it too. there's apparently a few fixes for it. i cant remember them off the top of my head, but it involves a 'wax pellet' that suzuki used to draw more air into the motor when its cold, but it doesnt close up when it gets hot, hence reving high

i'm sure theres another thing to it as well, have a search on outers or zukiworld, theres info on there about it. i never got around to doin the 'fix' yet cause mine isnt a DD anymore

i'll have a look around and see if i can find the info i had about it when i was gonna fix mine

Royce, just for comparison re your idle question, I looked at mine when I started her up this morning & she idles on 1500rpm until warm then goes down to 900 - 1000rpm.

Mine does not rev high when I stop at traffic lights or have lights on, although does rev slightly higher when the air con is on 1100 - 1200rpm maybe.

Edited to answer your question below. Mine's a December 1991 model.

ANNODAM thanks for that, good to know there is a normal level to hunt for, what year is yours?

runs out to warehouse to get carb clean and contact clean
almost forgot all about it
I'm going to give it a blast tonight and have a bit of a look at some stuff like the vacuum valves and things to see if they might be sticking or something

that one is normal (somewhat) and easy to fix

start the engine and warm it up, get somebody to turn the lights on and off while you look at the front of the carby, see the vacuum diaphram moving the linkage in and out and its adjusting screw? just wind it down till you get the speed with lights on you want

it will also do it with the heater fan on and if your a rich Japaneese guy with the flashy hardtop version the rear demister as well :D

otherwise you can unplug the slolenoid down near the temp gauge or the diode block hidden in the wiring loom to the drivers side of the dizzy
