hi all soon i will be getting a set of 30x9.5 tires for my sierra (leafy) but im torn between witch set of transfer gears to run? after searching and reading a bit about them 6.5s looks to be to low so im left with either 4.9 or 4.16. witch one is better for 30s? 4.16 are recomended but the extra reduction of the 4.9s sounds like it will be handy, im not sure how much the 4.9s will effect dd and highway driving though. and is there really much of a difference between the two running 30s because the cheaper 4.16s woudl be a better option if not the car is mainly my daily drive with a bit of highway driving, but dose get offroad every chance i can get. cheers |

I'm still waiting for my 6.5's and I'll be running those with my current 235/75/15's (29's) until I need new tyres at which point I'll go up to 31's. I'll let you know how it goes, I used an online calculator to calculate the speeds for the gears e.t.c and I don't think it'll be much of a problem (none once I get 31's) because I don't do much highway driving. Just run 6.5's, will be okay in high range, and in low range, if you want more wheel speed just shift up. Layto.... |

i'm running 4:16 transfer gears on 30" and it's great. but it's a 1 litre so has 4.11 diff ratios. in a 1.3 I'd definately go for 4.9's 6.5's are overkill for even 31s in my opinion. |

I run 6.5's on 30's and my Zook will happily sit on 120 all day on the highway, Low 1st is a little low for climbing but great for driving slowly over rocks, ruts and down hills. |

6.5 sound extreamly tempting being cheaper, having a lifetime warranty and lower ratio, also fitting instructions make everything easier. Layto.... when you say ok in hirange, is it a ok drives well in highrange? and ok as in drives wicked off road because of the extreamly low gearing? |

Im on 4.9's with WT 3.7 diffs and 30's BFG KM2's 3500RPM at a true 100. I find these are a nice compromise for on road gearing as well as offroad. Dan |

i have small 31s(measure close to 30s) and 6.5s at 100kph revs are 3600. checked by GPS. i reckon it would be better if it revved a bit harder like 3800 or 3900 at 100kph 6.5s give a good spread of gears with 5th low being a little lower then 1st high so there is a gear for what ever speed ya want, well not 200kph. |

6.5s are looking good atm running 30s with 6.5s would i need to strengthen the transfer mounts? eg sort out a cradle or HD crossmember? and is there anything else i need to worrie about with running 6.5s |

My transfer arms are a little twisted now tho but that was my fault trying to pull a pajero out of a bog. |

This might sound like extra work; but don't choose your transfer gears because of the high range gearing they offer. Choose the transfer gears on the low range gearing you want, then correct high range as much as you can by changing diff ratios. If the transfer gears you want will make you rev a bit more, and you are running the highest diffs you can (3.7 for a Sierra) thats probably not a big deal as Suzuki engines like rpm. As for what lowrange gearing you want, we could all argue this for pages and pages, and you could likely be more confused by the end of it  . Watch or better yet, get in some cars and see for yourself if you can.
My own personal opinion is 4.9 or 5.12 transfer gears for all 4 stroke Suzukis, anything from an F8 to a G16 anyway (6.5's seem to work for 2 strokes). Both the 4.9's and 5.12's have essentially the same difference between high and low, with the 5.12's have a bit more primary reduction, essentially acting like a set of 4.9's with slightly lower diff ratios. From what I have seen of 4.1's the gear spacing seems to end up a bit wrong
