Can anyone suggest where I should go to get caliper seal kits? I've got a set of Vit brakes to go on the zook but I should prolly give them a once over before I install them. |

did you get vented ones? you will love em Cool thanks for that Royce. Do you know if you can get the seals on their own, or just a seal & piston kit? I did get vented ones  they should pull up the 31's a bit better.

all the seals are one kit, piston if it needs it are seperate dont clean the piston and inside the calliper with anything other than clean brake fluid and a wire brush either I put vented ones on the vit with bendix 4x4 pads, stops a heap better than the solids (which are the same size as sierra ones) |

I was planning on dropping them in to me de-rusting bath. It's a plastic container with water & washing soda, and a 12v battery charger. This shouldn't hurt the caliper, I hope. Well, it hasn't hurt anything I've put in there so far. |

I dont know why thats how its done but its just how I was taught I guess contamination could be an issue if the stuff soaks into the calliper and so on, I guess we will find out
BTW, I am guessing you are doing some kinda electrolysis thing there? if so pics please

or stick it in with the piston and bleed screw still fitted and the hose connection blocked off? |

Yep the process is electrolysis. There is tons of info on the net on how to do it, I had all the stuff at home already so it didn't even cost me anything to start up. I'll take some pics of my set tonight. I've currently got the pipe that comes out of the back of the water pump in there, that bit always get's nasty with rust. |

Just make sure that the caliper is thoroughly dry before reassembly. Brake fluid is hydroscopic (it absorbs moisture), anything over 3% water saturation and the fluid will start to break down. This is why it is important to change fluid regularly and only use fluid from a sealed container. It also works well as a paint stripper so wash any spills thoroughly with water. |

I wonder if, for paint stripping small parts, brackets etc it would work to just soak them in brake fluid??? It sure works on the front guards when you're topping up the master cylinder!!! |

Had a good look at my calipers today and they are pretty shagged. Pistons have some nasty corrosion on them. So they'e going to get a full reco, acid bath & plating + new pistons & seals. I'm thinking about using the rotors but they look a bit messy, though they are probably OK. Might just machine them & get new pads. |

oh yeah
I'm going to use the ratty old rotors though, they are still OK. Maybe clean up the faces with some emery and put in new pads. Need some brake lines too, the Vit ones are a bit long! |

Haven't installed them yet. I have a set of 6 stud hubs and am going to wait til I fit them, coz I have to return the rotors I bought and get 6 stud versions... Well, that and I haven't finished my engine swap yet
