| Post subject: | 1.3L Alternator in a 1L ? |
My alternator and regulator has gone in my 1L and I am midway through a falcon alt swap, But...... I can get my hands on a 1.3L alternator for the time being? And is there any problems (apart from mounting) I should look out for? Thanks in advance. Donny. |

youll need to change the wiring to suit the internal reg of the alt and wire in the light easiest way to do this is the 3 pin plug on the original alt has ignition power there (black white stripe) and then join the white with green stripe to the white with red stripe at teh regulator (unplugged and thrown out of course) and it then becomes your warning light wire |

It's unusual that both the Alt and Reg have failed together. Whether it's an internal or external regulator, that's most often the bit that fails first. The externally regulated Alternator is a fairly rugged bit of kit, with only bearings and brushes to fail/replace. The external regulators used on the LJs and SJ40 are a relay type that is usually robust enough and doesn't need adjusting, but after 20 odd years of use, the relay springs and contacts can weaken and fail. Ingram make a replacement Reg (p/n 831231) that is Solid State with no moving parts, but is still adjustable for voltage. |

The regulator failed then it burnt out the alt. Can someone please elaborate on the wiring? Not sure if I did it right it's only charging at 12.3 volts at the battery and alt. |
