the breather was already there from factory. all you have done is extend it up higher to stop water ingress and put a fliter on the end. either your mechanic doesn't have a clue or he's trying to rip you off. either way don't go back to him again, unless it's to tell him how useless he is!!!

As others have said its not pressure in the diffs, tho there will be a vacuum to some extent when a hot diff is immersed in cold water thus the theory of it sucking water in through the breather/seals etc

some military vehicles run low pressure into diffs etc, to help keep water out...but not a zook

you also need a new mechanic.... we all know that headlights don't have fluid, it's the blinker fluid that needs replacing.

I did that once, he responded with half of the shit you read on the internet is bullshit the other half are lies. I kindly said well I think I'd rather take advice from 7 other people that have been there, done that, have had the same issue, fixed it and know more about this model of car than you. He wasn't too impressed, a few other words were exchanged but I never returned.
