so my sierra is starting to use a bit of oil just curious if there is any where that does good reco exchange engines it is a g13ba and once they start to use oil how long till it craps it's self completely(engine has done 235,000 km's) |

Keep putting oil in and it could last a long time but will be smokey your best to go with a good low klms second hand g16b mpfi conversion |

yeh the efi conversion idea is floating around in my head but need it to be done as cheap and practical as possibil, and need the car all the time so don't want it off the road for too long |

I got a 2nd hand g13ba off here for $350 and fitted it last weekend. So far I don't think it's used any oil (I just got back from driving to Yamba and back) but it still needs gears as it's on 29's. I got mine (with original motor) early december, and I changed it last saturday, it was using about a litre of oil per tank of fuel (40-50L) so around the 50:1 ratio (2 stroke!) They run for ages if you keep topping up the oil, but mine blew so much smoke it made people following feel sick! (had mates complaining after following me for a 5 minute drive) |

Okay I think I'm lying to myself, it's definitely used a bit of oil in the week, mostly on the trip to yamba and back, I guess under heavy load? Will see how it goes, at least I have the option of rebuilding the original motor myself (cost of parts) and then if that one fails in the long run I might be around the time of a conversion! |

Starting to use a bit of oil - how much is a bit? On a daily driven 1.3 Swift (same G13BA) I went from watching the level drop from full to low in between changes at 3000 miles, to adding a quart in between changes over a period of maybe 3~4 years - with very little smoke (if you were driving behind and watching for it you could just see the slightest puff on an upshift) - but in that time the compression went from around 140 psi to around 90, and the power went with it. If it's just a little bit of oil, you can get a few years more out of it - get yourself a compression tester and learn to use it. |

Put in engine flush with oil drain crap oil out and add some penrite HPR 50 fill tank with BP ultimate every time you fill up for next 5 tanks on last tank "get angry with it" and give the engine a good flogging to remove carbon build up Then tell us how much oil its using |

I run bp ultimate all the time (since I got the thing in december, it's only $50 to fill the thing up) and was going to get some engine flush after I'd run the cheap oil I put in when I changed engines for a week or so. Might have to look into that today. Was planning to use a good synthetic or something if it's not burning oil! |

Honestly, I wouldnt bother doing anything until it loses a lot of power and/or looks like puffing billy. They are a cheap and readily available engine, you could buy a second hand one then spend time learning how to rebuild it yourself, then swap it out with your current engine when the time comes. Engine rebuilding is not a black art, not in these engines anyway. Just put thicker oil in it and drive it till it dies. |

well it's not using a lot yet has droped 3-4mm on the dip stick over 4 weeks (when i serviced it over christmas) . i topped it up friday night and went up to tough tracks for a watch over the weekend and it may have dropped 1mm or so over the drive there and back from ipswich, the main thing is if it is easier to rebuild i don't want to leave it till it's completely stuffed and cost heaps to fix. it has also developed a miss in the low rev range since driving on the bumpy roads over the weekend, any ideas? |

3~4 mm over four weeks is negligible if it's a daily driver - and they're easy to rebuild - I did mine last year, bored 0.5mm over, flat topped high compression pistons, new bearings etc., etc. When I stripped it the "wear ridge" at the top of the cylinder was non existent and the factory knurling was still visible on the pistons, piston to wall clearance was right on the max allowable so I went ahead and rebored. That is probably the only thing that would have changed if I had pulled it down earlier, I would have had less bore wear and could have gotten by with a "re-ring" rather than a "re-bore", and all that would have meant realistically is less time to the next rebuild, assuming that I still had the engine when that time rolled around. For the cost of a set of pistons and a rebore, I'm happy I did the rebore - pricing may vary where you are, but, my engine is now a 'known' quantity, I don't have to wonder what condition it's in and how long it'll last me - that peace of mind is what I paid to get. |
