hey guys i am looking at making up a winch bar i have got all the plans ready of what i want it to look like and how to mount it just wondering what materials should i use i was thinking 4,5 mm plate but wasnt sure about tubing

2" tube with 3mm side wall should be strong enough.

Something that is just as important as material choice, is execution.

Design your winch cradle/ mounts first, then add the tube outriggers etc. Mounts are very important, so get them right the frst time :wink:

Mount it to the ends of the chasis using crushtubes and make a bracker so that it can be attached to the front crossmember also using some M10 hightensile "u"bolts. If you sleeve the cross member with a snug fitting pipe it will add extra strength. Ive winched some stupid things with my old sierra and with it mounted this way i never had any issues with the way it was mounted.

i wont be doing the welds my dad will be he has been welding for 30 years so i think he will be able to do it as for the design it is still being decided

First thing i got taught by a tradesman about welding...



There's Nothing you can't fix with a grinder :)
to this day im yet to prove this theory wrong
