Okay so some of you may have seen my thread about the rear shocks getting smashed by the diff by now.

I have been looking at how to fix it and while putting the shocks at the front would be good, it's a bit more work than we first thought (exhaust in the way) and we wondered why can't we just move the diff forward to the stock position?

Does it have to be moved back with the lifted suspension? It's an ironman suspension kit they had put in it (before I got the thing) and it was basically brand new gear when it got to me (from what I could tell because the shocks were mint and now they are damaged)

Surely this would be easier/better than having to move the shocks?

Neither, just modify your existing shock mounts. Why would you want to shorten your wheel base by moving your diff forward???? Nearly everybody else in the 4wd world is trying to achieve longer wheel base, just look at the build threads on some of the modified fourbies on here

i have ranchos with no dust tubes and they got munted by the diff anyways, so much that one got punctured

Just put a spacer or few washers on the spring plate. That will move the shock back, clearing the brake line bracket thats hitting the shock.

Spring plate bolt isn't long enough, then they'd be rubbing the fuel tank.

I'll put all the ideas to my old man, at least if I temporarily fix it by removing the dust covers, I can replace the dust covers with a rubber boot of some sort (to keep the rabbits out) and hopefully the problem is solved.

They will still be on an awkward angle and right in the middle of things though. Who needs a muffler anyway...

I'm using iron mans on mine and the are pretty fat tubes, but mine don't seem to hit anything they shouldn't

Koni's are skinny and i just bash the brake brackets away from them. It not the point tho, the shocks are at a real mongrel of an angle, their chewing out my bushes already! Im also looking in to a fix for this.

Well mine has trashed the brake line that runs across the diff housing (to the rear left) so I need to do something to stop it happening again!

do any of you complaining about smashed shocks run extended shackles? I've only seen smashed shocks on WT's with extended shackles - which is why i ask.

AFAIK mine are not extended, I'd need to measure them and compare to a stock length one though.

As far as I can tell (or have been told here when posting pics) the diff is further back than stock, and that combined with iron man shocks being fat, is what's caused them to get smashed up!
