Even though the FSM mentions only using DOT3 is it OK to use DOT4 instead?

Wouldn't DOT 4 being a more advanced fluid be better then using the older DOT 3 as it has higher boiling properties but still based off the same glycol mix?

Dot 3, 4, 5.1 are interchangeable and will mix.

Dot 5 is not interchangeable. Will not mix. Whole system has to be flushed clean and dry for dot 5. A limited amount of brakes use dot 5.

A good explanation For dot 3 and linked to others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOT_3

So what gives then???

The brake fluid reservoir cap on my GV says DOT3 ONLY, the FSM only states DOT3.

Could there be parts compatibility issues?
