Post subject:  CVT sierra??
Has anyone done a cvt trans swap in a sierra before? I had a drive of a honda jazz today and it got me thinking.....
No short term serious plans here, just a thought for the lwb. I figure the trans/motor combo in the jazz would be pretty good as it affords you all of the comforts of auto but with the ability to hold gears via paddle shift. It's not bad on power as standard but there is plently of ricer go-fast parts available.

Like I said, just a thought.

yeah put the auto in for sure, i think a FWD lwb will be an awesome idea, and paddlen shift is an awesome idea also, you will need to mod the steering wheel to fit them, but it will be worth the effort, and leave your Tcase in because you will want to use it up the beach with all power the f10a put's out (you will need to install a 1L motor because it will bolt up to the auto gear box). the only draw back is you will need to get a custom input shaft so it powers the rear wheels, i suggest getting a uni joint machened up so it suits your wheel studs, then run 2 DC joints so it bolt the the outside of the wheel and then back under the car and into the Tcase.... anyway, go for it! and take lot's of pic :D

Don't honda motors run in reverse rotation?

And CVT is just another thing to go wrong :o

Theres a bloke over on zukikrawlers with a S2000 motor... That was an interesing read, and alot of work..

No they got rid of that in 99 when they went to the perpetual coil ignition system with hyclone stabilizers. :roll:

Honda d and b motors spin backwards

k and f20c spins the norm

The hardest bit will be converting it to 4wd. Not enough room to run a motor, and a gearbox, then a shaft from 1 side of the diff (must be locked) to the transfer..Alot of cutting of floor and firewall.

What 4wd/rwd north south setups run a cvt?

F20c motor your looking at 5k for the engine only.

Prob 10k for a 1/2cut.

K's are cheaper. k20a integraand typeR, k24 is accord, Jizz's have a smaller K motor. So awesome swap with a k24

I do understand the difference between n/s and e/w I was just focusing more on the cvt side of things and the car that made me think of it happened to be a e/w fwd. I have mucked around with cvt's on gokarts and pocketbikes before and was curious to see if it had been done on zooks.

After doing a little research I've found out that jatco are making cvt's for rwd nissans at the moment. Obviousy the price would be the limiting factor but interesting regardless.

The other option I suppose is building a cone type cvt. You could definetly make it fit. My first thought is to have a lever come up through the existing gear shifter that moves on 1 axis adjusting the position of the drive cone. The only real problem with this would be finding the right material to use for the belt.
