Is it just me or is $980 insane for an exhaust on a Sierra? (extractors $320, larger cat $200, then I guess $460 for the rest..) Seems criminal. I'm either a little naive on exhaust costs, or I sure would hate to be someone who doesn't have any idea, and forks out a bunch of cash |

stainless steel or just mild steel? mandrel bent or press bent? the above will greatly increase/decrease the price of any exhaust. |

Pretty sure I only paid around $300 for mine from extractors back, with just a resonator, 2" system. I would be getting another quote if I was you. |

Oh there's no way I would pay that, so don't get me wrong haha. Well I said to him "don't want anything fancy, just some boring old exhaust and some extractors, 1 3/4"-2". And told me $980. I'll definitely go somewhere else. I'll get the extractors off eBay, and see what some other people say for the rest. |

I'm either a little naive on exhaust costs, or I sure would hate to be someone who doesn't have any idea, and forks out a bunch of cash Jeez that is expensive..... You can get some really good extractors on ebay for around $220, with free shipping... the cat can be expensive, my 2in high flow cat, was $250 from memory... high flow muffler $100, and pipe was $200... But yeah, i wouldnt expect to pay more than $700 max with extractors, for a Sierra... |

I just got a 2.25" mild steel system including new cat and straight through muffler for $490 if that helps at all. A new catalytic converter is expensive for such a small part. |

Just out of curiousity, how much does it change the note? Anyone have a video of the exhaust in action with extractors/hi flow cat etc etc? |

Can probably take one for you if you really need one, I don't have a cat (that I can find...) though and I wonder do I need one (1990WT) Unless it's hiding inside the muffler? Didn't think they can do that though? But yeh video, I've got some ridiculous exhaust note, and my mates with stock exhaust is quiet to the point you don't notice it in the car. |

I've got the $220 eBay extractors with 2" piping, hi-flow cat and straight through sports muffler.. Cost me $680 fitted.. Made a big difference and sounds great (a little noisy, considering it's still slow..) but yeah.. I reckon it has a nice note |

im running lukey extractors and custom exhaust with 2" muffler and a 2" cat with 2" pipe from the extractors back then a 90 degree bend for a downward pointing exhaust... mine was made to be as quiet as possible and it only gets loud when my foot is flat and above 4000rpm... even then you hear the engine louder than the exhaust. loud exhausts are wayyyy over rated... they increase fatigue on long drives, they stop you hearing your music or make you go deaf trying, and when offroad you can't hear what a spotter is saying over the wet fart sound coming from the back of your car. |

I'm going to try and quiet mine a little, it's a good note, but still fairly loud. I reckon just putting a bit of sound proofing in would probably fix it. My engine used to be louder than the exhaust, but not anymore. Also, does anyone else get fumes back in the vehicle? It's only when the top is off or open at the back that I notice it, just with the turbulence no doubt but still, did pointing the end down help? |

The point of getting a custom exhaust is to reduce the restriction of a stock exhaust, making it quiet, adds restriction via the muffler baffles... defeating the purpose... NO Way, the exhaust note is awesome to have, i get no fatigue, i can hear the music fine, and i can hear spotters fine, just wind all the windows down or give them a handheld unit... if it sounds like a wet fart, its not a good exhaust system... |

hehe... i reckon i could safely say you've reached puberty already? i don't understand his theory, the noise from an exhaust is getting directed out the back of the car, most spotters are infront. my exhaust is loud but when you're infront it's quiet & can hardly be heard + when a spotter is required such as rock crawling it's not like you're doing 6782 RPM on the limiter so it's never going to be making much noise. |

moreso cos im in a soft top sierra i think... its not that a cant hear a spotter, its just easier without a wet fart sound at the same time =) loud exhausts also attract the boys in blue. |

I have a beautiful sound system in the zook, its a 2' exhaust, near straight thru, plays me lovely tunes. I would not be without a loud system, when out playing hard, its nice to be able to hear the donk screaming away, loud enuf that you can hear it over your brain concentrating like fuck so as not to go arse over tit, but still keep it sideways going up or downhill and doing wingovers. A hot still day, I wound the passengers window down, was having a real hard time, she felt gutless, would not hold, started to get the shits with the bitch. Somewhere along the line, I realized that the passengers window down was making the donk sound a lot different, so I wound the window up, and away we went. I played around a bit, and worked out I was prob 5-700 revs down, doh Love that sound. |

It's fairly quiet, but not that quiet, I think the phone camera mic isn't all that flash. It sounds better with extractors. |
