I went to Repco, SCA and Autobarn today looking for boss kits for my new steering wheel. Repco was the only place with one in stock, but the adaptor was near 4 inches long - which would bring the steering wheel too close IMO.

I've checked out a few rigs and noticed the adaptors look way shorter than the one I saw.... just trying to chase down a bit more info see if you got em from somewhere in particular.

They can all get their own brand kits in, and Supercheap said they can order in an Auto Technica one too but costs $20 more... anyone know which has the lowest profile?

The splines are the same for various Suzuki's, I'm running SAAS BK139BL boss kit to suit 97~on Vitara, with the indicator pins.

fired up the Dremell & modded it to suit the female set up on the SV420's.

^^^ Yeah that's the model # I went in with, the repco guy tried to fob me off something else and thought it looked a little wrong. Douche - he's the same guy that got me a dozen of the wrong spark plugs too!

It's gonna cost ~$90 from any of the places... so much for a cheap improvement, that kinda backfired.

I like your results though, looks that little bit better with a nice wheel

mate before ya spend any money have a look at joe's pain thread on what can happen with non standard
steering wheels in a accident.

Hey Mr Atari - do you remember how you grounded the horn wire?

Just looking at my boss kit now - i'm thinking to unshield a bit of wire and tighten it under the steering column washer/bolt... that should do the trick, huh?

huh??? got pics of your set up??

pretty sure the horn button has a metal spring/wire hanging out the edge that touches the boss kit when fitted. there were 2 terminals on the horn button & both are connected to the wires on the boss kit.

I got no horn button --> earth tab. Wire in pic feeds to the copper ring, so i'm guessing that's the positive feed to the button

tried plugging it in either one & fitting it?

see the spring/wire running around the bottom edge that should earth the horn button.

I've had a look at joe's thread before, is it partly to do with the wheel being closer to the driver because of the kit required to mount it?

I don't think I'd like to headbutt the stock wheel either though!

When I first saw this post I went searching for this thread, and couldn't find it - and then I stumbled over it by accident and realised that the pictures I was looking at, were what this post referred to.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that I'm unsympathetic toward Joe, it does look like a lot of pain, that could have been avoided had the vehicle been equipped with an airbag - but don't blame it all on a non standard wheel, unless the said non standard wheel failed in such a way that it caused him to lose control of the vehicle resulting in the accident - and from the picture it looks like the wheel was very firmly attached to the end of the steering column - perhaps a bit too firmly.

As with anything else - you pays your money, you takes your choice ...

here's a properly designed Momo hub adapter - anyone care to guess why it's shaped that way - so that it will collapse on impact - this is a more expensive (and safer) adapter than, just for example, the one you'll get for a Grant wheel

Your choice, your chance - and yes - I have Momo, and I believe it to be as safe as the non airbag wheel it replaced.
