Hey guys so I'm having an intermittent fuel cut issue. I will be driving alond fine, will stop the car for a period longer then say 5 minutes and (sometimes) it will get 5 mins of driving and die(no fuel in the bowl of the carby) I've replaced the carby, checked the lines for blocks and replaced my fuel filter yet its still doing it. Could this be a fuel pump issue? How would I check and why would it only happen sometimes and not other? Any help that would steer me in the right direction would be awesome.. Ron **Also after just having it happen again on teh highway, its seems its ok to drive in 1st or 2nd till around th 3,00RPM mark but if i go up gears it dies.. I have a Nikki Datsun carby on there at the moment(which when runnign runs amazingly well) which has a large Fuel level window on the front and its clear that the fuel is near emty in the bowl/window.. |

but in all seriousness ron, i had this problem in my old lwb, i replaced the fuel pump, re kitted the carby and drained and cleaned the tank, went well for 10 minutes and did the same as yours again, blew some compressed air down the return fuel line (hooked up the nozzle to the line where the metal starts) gave it a squeeze and could smell fuel straight away, had a very small hole in the rubber feed line from the tank to the carby, would only be a problem above 3000rpm, because the fuel pump is cam driven and only sucked hard enough to be a problem above 3000rpm the reason being the pump finds its easier to suck air than fuel and thus cuts your fuel supply. replace all your rubber hoses from the tank to the carby (costs bout $11 including new hose clamps) than id that doesnt sort it i would call it the fuel pump ($115 ish brand new) also i had an old hr that used to do similar things, the jet in the holley was to big and flooded it, but this was when gearing down with no load, not gearing up. hope this helps. |

If it's intermittent it may be a thingy in ya tank floating around and sometimes blocking the pipe. I had the little bit of plastic out of the lid of an additive in a diesel tank once, would sometimes drive 100's of k's without problems....sometimes meters. bye |

Pcyc Has soup?! I'm so there! I will drain the tank and check lines.. have a 'new' fuel pump on the way... haha yeh I have a Holley 180 Twin throat to go on but dont want to put it on until I sort out what my fuel suppy is doing... to break a 'cute' Datto carby is no real bother.. to break a fully rebuilt dual throat 180 Holley would pi$$ me right off Ron |

How confident are you it's fuel? On other cars (not sierra) the ignition module in the dizzy once it got warm wasnt working and would cut out. removing it, new thermal paste and bolt back down solved it. I would also drop your fuel like cairnsbye said |

Dropping the fuel may not help, i did that. As a last resort I took the tank out and turned it upside down...out came this bit of plastic. bye |

Dropped my fuel.. Checke dthe tank and its amazingly clean inside as was the fuel Replaced the Lines, Went better revved over 3k for a change (;) thanks Joel) Still had fuel issues, Took the Fuel pump off and the internal seal was roooted and it was filling with oil.. :s Replaced the Fuel pump with an External fuel pump and ran new lines.. Runs good as gold.. Next step is to get me a smokey motor and rebuild it and replace mine... Problem solved.. (I hope!!) Thanks for the info guys helped me a lot! Ron |
