ok ppls, i think i might need a re-build on my lil beast, which sucks ass!!
this may sound dumb, but how do you know when a engine is on its way  .
ATM it blows alot of smoke on boost and a lil on idle. when i got the car, it had 2 holes drilled on top of the rocket cover with hoses running to a over flow as well as another hose comming from the original breather. it also had a blown rocket cover gastket, so i chaned the gastket and decieded to replace the cam cover as it seemd dodgy that there were 2 holes on it. THEN the smoke begun  im thinking it has alot of "blow by"
so therefore, rings might be gone..
SO dose anyone know a good/cheap rebuilder. im in west sydney/ penrith.
the car still drives and will still take it 4wd

its turbo isnt it?
could be pretty normal, G series engines suck for blow buy and oil burning so sounds like they were trying to stop that
turbo could be on its way out too, is it very oily?

Yeah the turbo could be sucking the oil up through the breather hose and then your just burning it up.

i have a gti motor for sale, its missing a the throttle body, but if you already have one then there is no drama ;)

it has EFI written on top, i think this identifies it as a MK 2.

the MK1 had EPI (electronic petrol injection) MK2 had EFI (elctronic fuel injection) MK3 was blank. or so i read somewhere.

i had $200 on it but am willing to take $150. i was told there was a big end bearing noise. i havent pulled it apart to find anything wrong with it so i dont know.

pm me if you want it

I'm guessing you mean the rocker cover gasket was leaking? Or do you mean the head gasket was blown?
When you turbo a non-turbo engine, especially an old, worn one, you end up with lots of blow-by. Hence why the breather bottle is added on, to catch all the oil that gets spat out the breather.

yes the rocket cover had a busted gastket, so i replaced that, since i had the rocket cover of already, i thought i would change it as it had 2 extra lines coming out of it into the catch can.. wich look prity shaby to me. so now i have only one line, which is from the original breather.
as for its a being old engine, it was rebuilt by the previous owner, during the rebuild he increased the capacity from 1.6l to 1.7l.

i took the old girl out today for some fun, blew smoke but not as much... could just be a tuning problem..
