mate when i got my offroad armoury kit from the uk i payed 400$+ in customs tax.
call up the fex ex customs office
180011112 im pretty sure that the number.
i think if its over 1000$aus then you have to pay customs tax.

maybe they mean local goods and services tax in oz. i think it is 11% however it only applys over certain value purchases

That'll be fine. We have a free trade agreement with the USA for good upto the value of $1000AUD.

Thanks Bryce. Will give them a call tomorrow and see what the fees are.. The shipping fees surprised me a little, I didint think they would be as high as they are.

Might go see king springs and see if its cheaper to get a set made..

Correct answer, incorrect terms I think, but I would have to check, I know some people

I believe Free Trade extends to Automotive parts MADE in the USA not in China and sent from the USA
you are still liable for GST

but under $1000 and sent via DHL or Fedex or USPS it will probably just go through with no checking

under $1000 is jsut the customs CBF going after it limit

unless you use a freight forwarder, they get you for every charge so they can stick their admin fee on for it

One more q's.. Are the springs for a Samurai Rhd? I only ask because I've read that they drivers side has a load pack? Will it matter if they are Lhd? can i just install them in revers(Lhd>Rhd) without any dramas?

Yep. I've gotten $1500 through once before, but I try to avoid doing that.

I ordered my 6.5's over a month ago (along with the twisted tt kit) but the supplier took ages to get twisted tt kits to lowrange and It only shipped on the 26th :(

It's at customs now but annoying as because I want my bloody gears already!

Zoo if the products that you buy are under $1000AUD then it's all good. Because I got a quote for 5x235/75/15 km2s cost 1064 including postage. So would I get the by tax on top? Or just off the items cost is over the $1000AUD?

AFAIK there is no set law regarding GST and duty and what value it starts to be applied, its just what customs feels like chasing

you could order something for $50 and get charged if they wanted too

my last order from lowrange was $1800 and about 60kg, i didn't get stung
for import duty or anything else.

I import a heap of stuff.

The up to $1000 rule will get you extra payments to be made on an order. However, if you get clever and order over that, and ship multiple boxes they'll get you. Unless you ship them to different addresses under different names :wink:

As others have stated, sometimes you get lucky with orders over $1000 but its normally just death and tax stuff, accept it has to be paid and get on with it.

No, i got 4 35's from tirerack.

there was 2 amounts on my recipt.
customs value(712)
postage value(400)

= 1112usd. Aud was more at the time.

No charges.

what I do with mine is split the order and get them delivered to my parents or mates place...but you have to pay for another freight charge
sometimes its just better to get slug from custom than paying the extra freight.

The biggest issue with customs is the time delay. They get AQIS to hold it up for a few days too. Can get quite frustrating :x

IF i want something over 1k. And its 2 parts, i split the order with a couple of days inbetween ordering..eg. tyres - rims.

There is legislation, and here's a bit of info on how it works.

It is important to note this waiver is ONLY automatically available for items sent by "mail" (ie United States Postal Service, Royal Mail, Australia Post, etc).

You can still be charged duty and GST on consignments valued under AU$1000 if they have been sent through a freight handler or courier, unless they specifically submit an individual customs declaration for that consignment.

The reason for this is that if DHL, or FedEx bring in a container containing 100 customers packages valued at AU$800ea, then they keep their importation and customs brokerage costs low (and therefore their freight rates) by declaring it to Customs as ONE ITEM valued at $80,000, and DHL, FedEx, etc being the single owner who is presenting the item for clearance. This avoids submitting 100 separarte declarations. Customs will charge DHL, FedEx, etc the duty and GST at the applicable rate and they will then pass this onto each customer, usually by a phone call for a credit card before they will deliver.

If you have a choice in shipping methods from the States, try to get it sent USPS, even if it is a couple of bucks more expensive than a courier/freight handling company, as you will save money this end by avoiding taxes. Some shippers will do individual declarations, but the cost of this is usually reflected in their shipping charges which make them more expensive than USPS.

I have Fedex and DHL's a few things in (not car parts). Had gifts arrive from overseas the same and never been pinged for GST because of the courier rounding things up. As long as the shipping note has the declared value and its under $1000 (inc freight cost), I have never has a problem. But as pointed out, they are not cheap.

But note it's the price of goods PLUS any duty PLUS price of freight all combined which need to be under $1000 to avoid GST.
