i bought some converted rally 4000s from a now belly up mail order business long story short, i actually ordered lightforce lights, and a month after i was promised delivery had to change my order to get some lights. the rally 4000s were shit and had less light output then the lightforce halogen lights they replaced. $800 down the drain. i gave the fuckers away in disgust and wont deal with a Australian mail order company again as the pricks all seem to sell things that they dont actually have. get some off fatzook or from seppo land. |

if you buy lightforce 170s, blitzes or XGTs leave them standard as they are a very good light. you can spot roos and cows 2km away easily. still doesn't help with the ones that ambush ya but. |

Im my zook with upgraded wiring, an H4s, plenty power for the speed she be capable of, no dramas. Want33s has some LED spotties that look pretty good, didnt look at them driving, but they light up really well, and via a amp meter, just about zero draw. I may get these if I decide to get more candles. |

I'll have to look into the LED spotteis a little more. I saw on 4WD tv, they think that HIDS are the most powerful spotties you can get. Is $500 a good price for converted hid lightforce 170 strikers? Cheers matty |

Those LED ones are absolutly blinding. Way more effective over close distance than HID. They are even hard to look at in daylight they are that bright. |

yeah, over close distance not heard anyone have anything nice to say about them using them for night road driving hopefully I will have some pics of fatzooks small lights in action on the weekend, so you can get an idea of how they work |

The output of lumens is massive compared to a HID spot, but because it is not directed at all, it goes absolutely everywhere, which means the light output directly infront of you (where you need it) is very poor. If all you were doing is slow, night rockcrawling, then they would be perfect. Otherwise a spot/spread bean HID will shit all over an LED light bar. |

Cheers matty they cost around $300-350 a pair new so then whet ever the hid kit is worth. make sure that there isn't a big black spot in the middle of the light beam as it will make the lights pointless. i still say that good halogen lights piss all over crappy HIDs especially if you dont want to hit animals. animal eyes don't reflect as much with HIDs

Fatz, the ones mentioned up above, show a distribution of 240', for my zook, at 90k and in the closed road she is driven, that is more than enuf, mega skippys, so I want broad spread, on the road car, yea, dirty great big long spotys. |

We used to stock the same lights. Infact, I found 2 4" units just the other day. The rigid lights shit all over them units. Either go with the LED bars or get yourself a HID upgrade kit and a set of lightforces |

lol If that's how you want to compare the 2. LED is the way of the future. It's lumin output is massive and in conjunction with it's low ampere draw, I don't see why you'd waste money on flimsy Chinese imports. Goodluck though!

The adverts in the 4wdaction mag that snake racing do about rigid light bars is misleading. The car is parked on a slope pointing the nose up and, aswell as the headlights being on i'd be very surprised if they aint got spotties on the bullbar

I'm not going to defame or promote ANY particular product. I will only attempt to explain the mechanics behind what royce has said. Lumens is a unit of measure of light. Like decibels is for sound. And just like sound, light can be measured at different distances. So a gun shot at point blank range will measure huge decibels, whereas a mile down the road it will be dramaticly reduced. The way that the LED lights are measured is that they take the AVERAGE lumens output measured from directly infront of an LED, and multiply that by the number of LED's. Thats all. There is no mention of how the light is projected, just its raw output AT the LED. This is very misleading. Just as a megaphone projects sound, a light source needs a reflector to project the light over a distance. I am yet to see a LED light bar, chinese or otherwise, project the same amount of light as a HID spot of ANY kind over a distance greater than 30m. I've used the chinese LED lightbars, I've used the RIGID LED lightbars ( much higher quality, but still the same projection issues), and both suffer from uncontrolled dispertion of light. A well focused halogen beam will project light far better than any LED light bar I have seen. HID is better again. JMO Peter |

i have halogen lights but im going to upgrade to a hid set up later on uve got to think as well why are the best lightforce lights hid? they could have used led but they didnt. |

JMO Peter This would make the led flood loghts the go for short range then ? yes/no I do like really long range lights, used to run flame throwers, @ 1 mile they were the width of the road, stunning long range, but then that was in the top end when we all drove at the ton or more. Now, where I live, the silly skippys wait in hiding, sort of, and at the last minute run out and bash your car, touch wood, so far I have not hit any, but I would like to upgrade so its not such an eye strain, short range is needed. Everyone sits on about 80k, locals that is, as it is kangaroo alley, speed limit is 110k, no way. |
