So after doing the body lift last night I can't stop thinking about doing a proper strip down and paint.

How tricky is it to get the dash out of a sierra?

And is it possible to remove everything while still keeping the gas in the a/c?

I'm going to rip the body off the chassis (partly just because I want to!)

easy to do there's screws along the top of the dash under the plastic covers take them out, on each end of the dash underneath there's some screws there, also take your air vent control cover off and behind it there's 2 screws

The speedo cable will need to be taken off also, now it should be loose, if you have ac leave the heater box ac in and just disconnect the blower pipes. The wiring can either be taken off the dash or left there and unplugged from the main harness

You arent going to get teh body off teh chassis and keep the gas in real easy, you would have to extract the underbonnet parts out of their spots and lift them off with it.

I dont think it would be a big expense to have the system emptied, the hoses into teh firewall removed and capped then filled later, AC should be serviced yearly anyway

I don't suppose there is a guide for complete dissasembly of a zook lying around anywhere?

I'm thinking of getting a little bit OTT with "restoring" the beast. I'd hate to do the paint and panels and underbody only to find something hidden rust away.

Hi, I am new around here but am in the middle of a total rebuild/restore/modify my old SJ40 and have striped it to bare chassis and I mean totally bare - It only took 2 days and was just a matter of undoing things as they were found - I have never striped a Suzuki before but had no problems at all - I am putting a 1.3lt/5speed box into it to replace the old 1lt and am doing both a body and spring lift as well as some body changes.

Take photos of assemblies as you strip them down. I use sections of cardboard about 300x300 and just poke all the bolts through it and label them with a border around the bolts for that part. Not only does it keep all the bolts for that part together but it gives you an idea of which order it was disassembled in. For the nuts I just put them back on the thread that they came off or into an old butter container / clip bag. Remember to mark everything with permanent marker because even a short resto can blow out to a lot longer than anticipated and some ball point pen inks can fade into obscurity given enough time; leaving you with plenty of un-named bits and pieces.

got a digital camera? take pics of the parts you're about to pull off & then take a pic of the bolts in the cardboard & the part you removed...

Man I can't wait to get started....

..... I'm just waiting on a new company car so I can take the tinny off the road and not be forced to drive the lwb around..... she's not real flash on the highway, plus no a/c and hot weather makes matfan something something...
