Post subject:  Removing Body Lift

Hey Guys,

I'm really wanting to remove the body lift out of my sierra and i just wanted to make sure i was covering all my bases in terms of things to consider... I dont think there is a great deal in all honesty, there is one or two little things that i know i have to move that may not be applicable to everyone else (fuel pumps etc) but my main concerns is the engine.

I'm running 1.6L EFI and i've been told that i may have issues with the air piping that goes over the head. to work otu if i have the clearence, is it as simple as making sure i have 2" clearence between the highed part of the engine and the bonnet? And if i do have the clearence removing the BL wont create an issue with the sump because the engine is fixed to the chassis rails. right?

Other then that is it just a case of taking out the BL?

Thanks for your help guys :)

I dont need it. It's 2" of height that just isnt required. I'm only running 31" atm and when i go larger i'd rather chop the gurdas then body lift it. I dont see the point of it in there really. Plus i'll bring down my COG by a c*nt hair :)

The only problem i will have once i remove the body lift is i will have to take out my transfercase lift until i mod the tunnel :(

Yep. You just need the height from the tallest piont of the motor to bonnet.

Do you know how to make playdough? Make some up, place a few balls that are about 100mm in diameter over the areas you believe to be the highest, dust with flour to stop them from sticking to the bonnet, and close the lid. Also keep in mind that the internal bracing under the bonnet sits closer in some areas than others.

Yeah i've thought about that too. The highest point with out a doubt would be the air intake piping as its a good 5cm above anything else. the other alternatice could be to re-plumb the air intake when i replace the engine? lol.

Also you have a pm pete :D

I've always found the accel cable bracket and front of the plenum to be offending areas too. You too have a PM

Don't forget your transfer case lift, and transfer case ring will both require working around.

I think you've already said something to me about this, but I can't remember :?

Ring is no issue becuase the case is already lifted and the ring clears. I did mention that earlier though, i'll mod the tunnel eventually so i can have the lift in there but i can get by for the time being without it.

I think your underestimating the value of a raised TC; particularly in a car with a transfer brake. I would strongly suggest you sort out keeping the transfer lift either before, or straight after pulling the bodylift.
