Post subject:  GV-XL7 motor differences.
Apart from the extra capacity whats the differences between the GV and Xl7 motors? The XL7 is stated at having 130kw @ 6200rpm where as the GV only has 106kw @ 6200rpm surely that little increase in cubes makes that big a difference?


Im asking coz im thinking out loud of maybe putting the XL7 motor in my GV to get some extra punch when and if my motor dies. Would i have to swap computers. My GV is one of the earlier ones with no ABS or Air Bags. XL7 had these as standard.

2 different intake's on the Xl's..
1. has the same as a Gv
2nd has a vacuum operated butterfly in the front of the peleniam that shuts off the front pipe, giving more toque, so the spec's your reading are more than likly the 2nd one.
If you want to run the 2nd one you will need to run the ecu as well, because the ecu operates the butterfly..

I was talking to a guy who was saying that you can do a cam mod to your existing 2.5lt an get better HP than the 2.7lt.

You will need to sort the exhaust as they are different, the cat is apart of the header on some engines and this can be a head ach in the swap

Really don't know too much about it.
DJ710 dropped over last week and was telling me all about it.
I can't remember if they were custom cam or out of something else.
I would look at doing it to mine, but it will be years off yet.
Might be worth a PM to him.
As he races GV's, he' deffinately in the know.

Go to http://www.tighecams.com.au/ They seem to be the ones in the know in aus. If something is possible they will know.

The GV power rating is only for the pre 01 model, after 2001, they GV had more power and torque , 116kw @ 6200rpm, and up from 208nm, to 213nm at 3500rpm... :D

Not sure... but i think i read something here, about the Series 2 GV, the one with chrome strip at the front of the bonnet, was the one were they fixed all the small problems, and put the power upgrade in... any GV experts here, like Stekky, could maybe answer that one...

Are you referring to the chrome strip on the top of the actual grill?

Yep the chrome strip, about 2in wide, above the grille, between the bonnet and grille... :)
