| Post subject: | GV front wheel bearings...again |
Hi all, I had the front wheel bearings replaced in my 2001 GV at 150,000 kms. Now only 7,000 kms later, the left hand bearing is too loose and the right hand bearing also has a bit of play. My mechanic says that it isn't something that can be progressively tightened - it's fully locked up by default. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any ideas at all? FWIW it has the 30mm OME lift and BFG ATs in 225/75. Thanks stooge |

Shitty yes, but no so cheap @ $318/pr. Can you recommend a reliable source? |

Do you have the 3 or 5 dr GV? My 3 dr GV uses the integrated hub/bearing which is freakin' exxy. |

It's the 5dr. I think that I've read around here that they tend to go by 150 thou, so I was happy to replace them the first time....will be a bit bloody pricey to do it with every service though |

2001 should still have the same set up as the earlier vits. pull off the drive flange on the hub & have a look, it sounds more like the mechanic didn't get them seated right when they were put in. you should be able to unscrew the four little screws, and tap up the threaded bearing lock rings ... (like my non-technical terms? |

I went through three generic bearings before going back to original (I think need to confirm). All I know it had nothing to do with how it was installed they where just failed bearings. One even failed 5 mins after leaving workshop. Weaves would more than likely deal with my mechanic C Bale. |

what failed in the bearings? I have used CBC sourced bearings ( I think they were NTN's and timken's) and they seem ok. you do need a press or similiar to do the front vit & Gv bearings successfully, as they have the shared external race for both inner & outer bearing races. |
