ok so my engine is pretty badly damaged and i was quoted $3000 to rebuild it to "good as new". My head appears fine. I hav however seen reconditioned 1.6 litre blocks for sale (suzisport.com) for $1800 (conversion kit included) were u keep the same head. It would be a plus to hav a few more kw with the 1.6 so what does everyone rekon the conversion would set me back? also how would the procedure differ from a manual jimny?

3k is reasonable if he is removing and fitting, most places will want to replace a heap of bolt ons and deck the head, new water pump, oil pump

Being a jimmy and having mpfi will make it easier. All the gear off your 1.3 should bolt on. You would need to get a a gasket kit and if you get the adapter kit with the new engine it should be a weekend

That's provided it's safe to use the 1.3 injection and ecu on the 1.6

Thanks I'm interested to know who's quoting 3 grand for an engine rebuild. If your head is fine 3 grand is about 3 times what i'd expect to be paying.

in w.a. you get charged between $4500-$7500 for a 1.6 mpfi engine and conversion.

I know a couple of guys running Jimny heads on 1.6 bottom ends, AFAIK they have the standard injectors...

It would be a fairly simple job. You will need an adaptor plate also for the 1.6 to 1.3 gearbox from BenT on here or lowrange or similar

We have one car in the club here in Vic currently running Jimny injections on a 1.6 bottom end. It seems to run pretty good. It hasn't been on a dyno or been run with a wideband 02 sensor to prove it's not doing anything odd, but seat of the pants says it's not far off. This car runs an AW-4 auto from a vitara though, and I think that's important. I'm not sure I'd run a Jimny auto behind a 1.6. The Jimny auto is right at the limit of it's torque handling capability with a G13BB. It is, in fact, a special "low torque"design Aisin-Warner made for the 660cc Jmny and it's been adapted to the 1.3. General consensus us they are marginal with the 1.3. There are no upgrade parts, the auto wasn't used in any other models, they don't last especially well even with a 1.3, they are near impossible to find at wreckers (as a result), and suzuki want $8.5K for a replacement. (Yes, really. $8500) We have a car running a Jimny auto with a G13BB in the club. I don't recall the KM's on the engine when the owner bought it. to date, it's been fine, however, the car isn't daily driven, it runs an enormous auto trans cooler and a temp gauge. The owner also runs lots of gearing, 35's, and off roads the car hard, but it would be unlikely it travels more than 5000km a year. Just some thoughts. It would be a shame to spend $1800+adapter plate and other fiddling around and then lunch the auto. Steve.
