Just found these guys. Radesign Products

Not entirely sure how these work with the OEM mechanical shifter but it looks to remove some of the hurdles when using an AW4 and not wanting to run the TCM.

pretty sure you can make it switchable. ie turn of the tcm and send power to the manual shifter

This can be possible 8) . Like I said to you before there was no way in getting around not using the factory shifted as well. Set up I have in mind is a TCM override switchable once the shifter is in D for dangerous

the aw4 is a fair bit different to the jimny auto i was talking to you about Dan :D. these things will run with no TCM at all and just switches ending signal to the soleniods

Yep. I have seen this done in US hotrods with a puch buttin console to direct the auto. No TCM in sight.

Cool! Well the logic circuit that im trying to figure out atm to intercept the TCM for manual override on the jim box could be easily adapted to the AW4 as well. The 2 solenoid auto is such a piece of piss to control compared to the 4!

They work with the mechanical shifter like this...
Warning jeep content, have you had your shots?  :finger:

Bloke I knew with a GTi ran an auto with push button shifting. Car was quick and robust even though it was purple and had a dragon airbrushed onto the bonnet . :gross:

I can't stand that radesignproducts shifter. It's a crap solution. Imagine having a manual gearbox with one shifter for reverse and 1st ( or somehting) and another for the rest of the gears. It's nonsense.

According to my understanding of the vitara TCC, with a STOCK shifter, all gears are selectable manually with the TCC disconnected from the engine computer.

The car with the "custom" AW-4 shifting I have referred to in the past had a stock vitara (or somehting) shifter for PRND and then a knob on the dash for 1234.

I also think this was a rubbish solution, but at least the owner knew it was a rubbish solution.

I think it's quite possible to build (or adapt) a "tiptronic" style shifter to an AW-4 where PRND are mechanically shifted, D remains full auto, then if the lever is moved sideways, each gear is manually selectable.

I can see the point of having full manual control offroad, bu I can't see the point of loosing automatic shifting on road to achieve it. I think a full manual valve body would be a pain in a car that's road driven for any distance.

Steve.

I want to see some one make some flapy paddle gear shifters on the back of the steering wheel in a Sierra. Now that would be 8)
